        Hi all,
After a recent conversation with a good mate of mine, it got me thinking of how most match anglers view the best way of connecting their rigs to their elastics?? I have tried them all over the years but keep going back to stonflos due to their ease of use and quickness. I agree they dont look great in the bigger sizes and obviously weigh more( cant be much though surely) but overall i find they are pretty much problem free…..
Id be interested to hear what other anglers think??
Is there a better way than the 3 listed??

Shop bought or homemade?? if making them yourself, which cones/beads are you using to cover the knot on the laccy?

Personally I think stonfo’s are the worst type you can use but each to their own. Reasons being they don’t look neat, make an awful bang when they come back and your line can get cut from the top of them. Also I don’t like the way they sit, I feel when striking into a fish you have to strike throught he stonfo first as it faces outwards and not down like dacron, not sure whether that’s right or not but that’s my view on it. Dacron for me, simple as peas!

Dacron all the way. Been using them for years without any problems whatsoever,

Dacron on all of my heavier elastics, above 6 solid and all Hydro’s, and stonfos on solids 6 and below.

Used Stonfos for 30 years but changed over to dacron connectors about two years ago, use the Avalon branded ones dead neat wouldn’t use anything else now.

I changed from Stonfo type connectors a couple of years ago to the smaller Yellow Preston Dacron Connectors. No intention of going back.

any ideas what sizes of the preston dacron connectors match up to the different sizes of hollo elastics upto the 17h ??

Two years ago I bought a spool of waxed dacron off ebay for next to nowt and once it arrived I got a disposable lighter.

With the items listed above (and some Korum snips I already had) I made myself a set of dacron loops which, along with a few bits of hollow elastic are still working fine.

Miles better than stonfo connectors – the only slight issue is getting used to tying-off the end of the rig with a pair of tails & a loop. Once you’re OK with that, there shouldn’t be a reason to use anything else as far as I can see. As others have already said, the strike always follows the path of the rig line, rather than often being at 90 degs on a stonfo which is under tension in the top kit.

The orange large size are spot on for 11h, 13h and 15h. For 17h you’ll probably want a slightly larger one! Blue is the next size up.

Personally, after years of using the crows-foot I’ve swapped to dacrons (which I used for a while when I did more silvers fishing), they just seem a bit neater, although I never had a problem with tip wrap-overs using a crowsfoot. I use the Preston ones, which I can’t find a fault with.

i use the i think its the korda helicopter teardrop rubber bead had no probs at all with it steve ringer suggested it at the time .and i have a spool of drennen dacron that i double up and superglue together makes it stiffer and stand off the pole tip.

used a crow foot for years and have tried many different ways but have now found something that im 100% happy with. I use tulip beads and fly line backing which comes in a variety of colours, fluro yellow and orange and many more, it is stiffer than dacron so with the tulip bead sitting flat against your pole tip it is perfect. i can also change my elastics in about 2 mins now so i just keep all my elastics on winders so i can quickly change for different venues, so no need to carry more than 8 or 10 top kits. total cost 10p per conector

Regarding your question about whether a camel toe would be better?! sadly, i guess the answer would have to be no…… Reason being you would end up staring at said camel toe and in doing so would miss loads of bites 😀 😀 😀 😀
