Daiwa power kits

I have had a couple of breakages lately. The BBPK I am convinced are not up to heavy elastics ,the number 2 explodes if put under high stress. This has happened to me twice in 12 months and I dont use these often. I have also had a CTK5 do the same. Is there a universal top kit that is better, and cheaper? I would also like at least one kit with a side puller, is the Daiwa interlastic up to red hydro with no dramas or is there something better out there? My problems have been the result of foul hooked lumps in Uglies at the Glebe.

Hi Fred, the CTK 5 is a kit I have had for years, the BBPK is about 2 years old even though the no2 was new last year after the first break.
I am interested to see if anything out there is better otherwise I will replace sections with Daiwa spares. Not seen much posted on the interelastic kits, at £80 odd each they should be good!

The interelastic kits are a bit more beefier, they should be fine with stronger elastic, never had a problem with the bbpk, but I only go up to grey hydro through them with side puller, I don’t know uglies at mallory, but if its a snag pit I put my daiwa away and get a power pole out, garbo g force power.

hi mate i have bbpk with orange kit ive cut these back to same length’s as my match kits and fitted a drennan black external bush but its perfectly internal this shortens the kit but makes it very stiff and in turn stroger i use this with red hydro and have landed fish up to the 13lb mark with no problems at all .this may sound funny but are you useing hook length’s in ur set up as for puller kits i have had mine done with gem pole repairs and these are great 25 quid a top kit! get in touch with my mate phil allerton at ted carters and he will sort these out for you and he also does all the top kits that go through carters so he no’s a thing or 2 about top kits poles etc there number is 01772253476

The problem I have with the BBPK is the short number 2 piece which seems to explode into 4 pieces when under high load. This has happened to me twice now in a year and I rarely use the kiits. The interlastic is only available as a BBPK or match kit. Thinking about it I cannot ever recall a match kit breaking on me so interlastic match kit seems to be the way to go.
I was hoping someone would suggest other pole kits such as Preston with the side puller but the fact that no one has suggested it tels me all I need to know.
I will check out converting one of my match kits first as I have loads of these.

Got rid of my BBPK No 1 sections on my interelastic kits and fitted standard match No 2 sections much better all round especially at longer lengths and strong.

A BBPK replaces the No2 Match section.
It fits directly onto your No3.
Which section are you breaking?

The BBK I haveare the orange ones, they fit a match top 3 as you say, the kit itself comprises a short number 2 section anout 18 inch long and then the top 1 is a telescopic fit thought the number 2. Its this shorth middle section that breaks. The kits were supplied with the new pro x I bought 2 years ago. As I have said I rarely use them but both kits have now expired with exploding short middle no2 sections. If I bin the top 2 a normal match no2 fits ok so its just the same as the match kit.

Shark, sorry for confusion, Daiwas correct name for these kits is MULTIBORE and not BBPK.

No Worries in my opinion the Multi bores are rubbish.
You are better off with a standard No3 section and a BBPK 1 cut back to the same length as a Match number 2.
I dont use any Power kits on my T/Pro just match kits upto black Hydro.
Anything heavier i get my Tricast XRS out.

Exactly the same here except I have an old Diaflash which Esselle have made me a short section to enable me to use my old diawa power kits on. I would not use these on my pro.
Have come to same conclusion on multibores and noted Daiwa dont do them on the pro x kits anymore.

I use the BBK kits as supplied with my pole and have had no problems landing fish well into double figures..even the kit with red bungee through the BBK and red number 3 section. Suck eggs moment…Most of the key to playing big fish is not to rush, not to over tighten your elastic AND definitely not imho to use a short landing net handle.

The BBK and the CTK5 and CTK10 are perfectly fine for the job and each one will alter the balance of your pole compared to match kits, as they are heavier and will be more so with the heavier elastics used in them..they will bend more than match kits and they should, cutting them back too far may stiffen the action but it means your are reliant on the elastic doing all the work, and when that bottoms out what’s left to give??? BANG!! oh another sh#te top kit gone…nonsense it’s another brawn before brain moment.

The Multibores should be consigned to the bin marked ‘nice idea but not the full solution’.

John, I must admit that I use the ctk5’s and 10’s and also the BBPK I havern’t had any problems with either as yet, with foul hookers I tend to just take my time and use a pulla kit and try to mug the fish shallow, when keeping the pole low the carp normally come in after a few runs and pop up, at times you have to haul but I really watch the pressure I am exerting, mainly because foul hookers take more time to land and hooks pull out,I don’t want to spend extra time playing a fish without it ending in the net. However you expect the kit to be up to the job! I do use the match kits, number one removed,but for fishing shallow as these normally have lighter laccy black and white hydro with a pulla bung

I agree with cutnut the multibores should be consigned to the bin

Fred its not the BBPK its the multibores that seem to be the problem, especially the short middle section. Agree on the match kits Nathan, I cant recall breaking one either, black hydro on puller seems to get lumps in ok.

John, Thankfully I havern’t got any multibores and by the sound of it definately won’t be getting any lol I do use the match kits but I do like the BBpk’s as these are almost as light as the match kits the ctk5’s and 10’s only get used occasionally and as they wear out won’t be replaced.
