        All,

I recently sent a Daiwa Tierra reel (US model) to daiwa (UK) for repair/service. I was willing to pay for all cost incurred.

The reel was returned nine later saying as this was not a UK model, it was returned unrepaired/not serviced.

Can I ask do you think this was a reasonable response from a global company?

I personally find this response amazing and will be interested to hear your thoughts.

        Thanks.

I bought Tierra’s from the states and to be honest I wouldn’t expect daiwa uk to honour any repairs. I think its the risk you take if your going to buy abroad. Daiwa UK have to support their UK retailers and think its a bit cheeky to expect anything else. It must be possible to get the bits from the retailer abroad and get somebody independent to repair them for you.

I’ve enquired about this for my Tierras, I can’t believe they don’t use the same parts for the gearing etc. I’d bet that if you opened them up they are the same as the equivalent uk reel.

I find Daiwa after sale excellent. I got spare sections for a margin pole delivered to my local shop within days and I wasnt charged an arm and a leg.

I have bought 5 TDR3012s from my local shop in the last year and daiwa have been very generous with their prices when buying spare spools.

Would an Audi garage take a VW or SKODA car to repair on warranty or a car with spurious parts?

Spare parts sat on a shelf represent ‘dead’ money.

Why on earth would you expect Daiwa uk to provide parts for a reel they don’t supply?

                  All,

Thanks for the replies, an interesting debate on after sales service.

I would have thought that the global brand that Daiwa represent would have cared for their products on a global dimension, similar to Toyota when they had to recall the Prius they did so on a global scale. They didn’t say because your car wasn’t built in Japan we won’t repair it.

They didn’t even point me point me in the direction of who may help!!

                  Poor, poor service.

Mate, there are so many things wrong with what you have just posted, but I really cant be bothered to help you any more. The fact that you fail to understand how things work doesnt give you the right to slag off Daiwa’s customer service, which is easily one of the best in the business. I know your annoyed, but your not helping yourself mate.

Then why bother posting at all!!!

What help have you offered already?

I am talking about my personal situation and the poor service I have received, your experience is obviously much better than mine.. aren’t you the lucky one!!

I think you took a risk buying them abroad and it backfired!

Legally, they have no obligation to help you out, and that’s the option they took. I personally wouldn’t have expected them too, or any other company for that matter.

It may be worth asking at a professional reel-care place to see if they can help you? the likes of http://www.reelcare.com or similar may be able to help you?

Mate, what exactly is the problem with the reel?
