Wolverhampton AA 3-Day Summer Angling Festival.
After three hard-fished canal matches, Dave Brown has topped the first-ever Wolverhampton AA Summer Angling Festival. Fished in anything but summery conditions, the Maver Midlands all rounder fended off some of the best canal anglers in the country to take top spot with four penalty points, a single point ahead of Browning Lifestyle’s Simon Mottram.
Here’s Dave Brown’s personal account of the three days:
“The festival kicked off at Wombourne on the Staffs-Worcester Canal between the bay at Planks Lane and the willows above Bottram Lock. I drew Peg 2, which was to the left of the bay. I caught two chub for 1lb 8oz on caster and 70 squatt fish for a total of 5lb 15oz for second in section. l was beaten by a chub weight of 7lb towards the other end of the section.
“Day Two was fished in Penkridge on the Staffs-Worcester Canal again, this time between the Cross Keys pub and Otherton Marina. I drew Peg 14, which was three pegs to the left of the cables. I had three chub for about 4lb plus 15 hemp roach and topped up with squatt fish for 7lb 5oz and my first section win.
“Day Three was fished in Brewood on the Shropshire Union and pegged to the right of the Bridge Inn pub. I drew Peg 10, which was three pegs to the right of the bay. I didn’t fancy it because the three pegs in the bay were also in my section – and with good anglers on them! I had a great day, though, and caught 130 squatt and pinkie fish for 7lb 4oz and another section win, helping me to win the league with four points.
“It was a great festival and really well run so I’m looking forward to fishing it again next year!”
