TF_Kagger TNBI do homebred fluros from the start of the season to the end of the matches on the Yare, normally the end of september.
When we used to fish the AT w/league i’d do them for longer, well into October if I could.

first thing you need is a shed far away from any house. lol
fresh meet, liver and heart is good, so is a pigeon. put it in an open box, plastic pref.
put box in a dark area were flies hang out. big black house flies for large maggots.
cover but keep well ventilated and away from dogs and cats.
check after 5 days, add more meat if needed.
should be off the feed after about a week and half depending on temp.after you have taken them off the meat you need plenty of soap and water and strong smelling hand cream. lol.
hope this helps,

TF_caster robParticipantUsed to breed big soft gozzers off pigs hearts wrapped in newspaper and then covered it in a container of bran to absorb the smell and allow the maggots to collect after they came off the meat.
I also used to do sour-bran specials for canal fishing.
Easy enough really.

TF_Kagger TNBNow I come to think of it, I used to do ‘hemp specials’ aswell.
Cracking bait on canals.

TF_One Out of the FrameIf you are not ‘breeding’ in industrial quantities then the smell is not too bad.
Back in the day road kill is what you need and a garage or shed that you can seal to stop rogue flies from getting in as you may end up with pinkies rather than gozzers.
Expose the meat from the fur or feather and get two or three ‘blows’ which are little white clumps on a pigeon size carcass then wrap in newspaper and cover in sawdust in a bin or large bucket.
If you want to dye the bait then it was applied between days 3-5 but when I was doing it I was using Chrisodine and Auramine and the bait would be ready when it came off the meat itself. Typically 7-10 days after ‘blowing.’
It is not difficult but is a bit messy however it does produce superb bait.
Well worth a go as the capture of fish on bait that you have nurtured yourself is second to none.

TF_One Out of the FrameTo get the maggots off the feed take the carcass out of the paper and put it on a riddle and the bait will fall through.
Always keep a few of the maggots of choice in reserve to start the cycle again as it is a bit hit and miss to start with as to what you get.

TF_fourcanalsyes used to breed gozzers in domestic tanks on the building site before they were fitted had a cracking system in the site hut used to get enough for 6 of us to fish the level thats the middle level to the un initiated to old time bream angling. pass the houses where the tanks are fitted and now 35 years later still brings a wry smile to my face happy days

TF_velosI used to bread maggots before the other half put a stop to it, she did not like the idea of it. But if there is no tackle shop near by it’s a good option.
