TF_carpcruncherParticipantWhat are you calling a long chuck? if your Talking 100 yrd plus , Then go with The Hardy Marksman 13ft distance feeder. When cathal Was testing this rod over in Ireland , on a 4000 stradic reel , 4lb braid 6lb shock leader and 28 grm feeder he was chucking 158 turns. In Yrds……A long way!! ~clap ~clap

TF_rocketFeederHow many yds is one turn on a 4000? What kind of feeder was it and was the shockleader mono? Cheers.

TF_scizzersanother vote for the hardy awesome casting power but light and comfy to fish with unlike most big distance rods, the hollow carbon tips brilliant comes at a price though but you’ll still be using it in 15years time unlike a 2grand pole

TF_carpmagicParticipantWith the wind behind us at Boddington using the 14′ aerocast i was casting 138 turns of an Ultegra XSB and a 50 gram rocket feeder, with an 8lb shocker and 4lb mainline. Bear in mind the ultegra cranks in over a yard a turn and you’ll see thats a very long way!

TF_carpmagicParticipantA front drag stradic winds around 90cm for every turn of the handle, not sure about the rear drag which id imagine Cathal was using.

TF_rocketFeederHaving fished long distance feeder for a number of years and spent a lot of time in sourcing the right rods, reels and braid I can honestly say that putting a 1oz feeder ~150yds is some achievement. If cathal could come on here and describe the setup that would be great. I’ve put 60g feeders ~140yds no problem and fished (with a 7ft double hook tail in a sidewind) at ~120yds but never managed to put a 1oz feeder ~150yds.

steve,do you reckon the 14 ft aerocast to be as good as anything you have used for distance fishing.
have you had any use of a daiwa tournament 13′ 5″ which is supposed to be daiwa’s distance rod.
lastly do you know if the hardy’s are as good as reported to be. -

TF_Kevin LeachThe stradic Cathal used was only a tiny one compared to the Ultegra. But the Hardy Marksman coupled up to the right reel is very nice. The 14ft aerocast is also a proper tool. I cant believe no one has mentioned the tricasts, they are also very good. I still have a soft spot for my 13ft speedmasters. But budget no option i would get the Hardy 13ft.

cathalParticipantI was using a 4000 Twin Power FC with a small 40gm tony Burke rocket feeder (the type that Cloughbally Mill sell with the cone bomb on the bottom. In fairness, I was only messing about that day and wasnt really fishing, but I have fished at 120 turms with the rod. Before the match on Friday (off the length)we were hitting 120 turns with the 12′ extreme feeder prototype using a small 37gram Kevin Leach feeder and banging the clip. After all that we fished at 35 turns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats Steve on getting into the English team. I fished against Mick and Dean years ago when they were in the juinor team, I HOPE THEY HAVE LEARNED HOW TO TAKE A DRINK. -

TF_squattSorry to pick up on this CC but there is a difference, once you are talking these distances, between 158 turns @ 0.9M = 142M with 28grams & 120 turns @ 0.9m = 108m with 40grams. Either way though it’s a long chuck as long as it’s going straight LOL.

Think its also fair to point out that 0.9m per crank will be brim full as the level drops ie 100m plus out then the retrieved line per crank is reduced considerably.
I used to cast at the uksf which is sea lead tornie casting.ie 250pm’s plus and some of the big carp boys where claiming distances of 230+ yards .they where invited to cast over grass on an official court.only one did. A lad called mark hutchenson I think was his name. He cast about 190yds if I remember but he was a great guy.he had based some of his distances on manufacturers claims per crank obviously full.
Far do’s though 100m plus is very good distance with feeders. -
