        Hi All,

So the Div 2 is on the Basingstoke canal? What do people know?

I fish the GUC around MK and Northampton a fair bit, and I understand it looks similar.

I hope it doesnt get as many boats!!

Does anyone know if they are looking to run some opens leading up to the date?

        Any info is appreciated.

        Cheers.

There is info on the Angling trust website:
          http://www.anglingtrust.net/page.asp?section=690&sectionTitle=Division+Two+National+Championship+2011
at the bottom there is a PDF file which you can download with details of each section and the dates of the matches

Only similarity with Northampton is reggie and Ronnie, lots of flashes on basinstoke with lots of Tench, carp and skimmers

so watch out for crays and a few skimmers and tench?

Can you put a weight together with small fish?

                Is it very peggy?

                long walks expected?

Fished it yesterday in a open 70 odd on We fished chequers left and right then 20 at Barley Mow. 11lbs won with 9lbs second both had bream i think.
I was to the right of chequers along a bit they call the tunnel as its got tree right over the canal. Knew it would be hard so fished the squatt over on two lines. Weighed 3-15 for second in section winner had 4-2 rest of the section had high 2lbs weights i was fairly happy as it was a quality field. First section was won with 2-14ish off the first peg.
Everyone had crays most hooking over 10 !!!!!! There are a few less now 🙂
There are a few flashes/turning bays but they will look after themselves if you are lucky enough to draw them. There are loads and loads of standard tough pegs where you will need to winkle out 2lbs-3lbs.
There are a lot of teams already up there practicing so it could get even harder.
                    Matches the next two weeks.

I fish it occasionally and would have perch high on my list of target species especially in the harder areas.
Chopped worm, caster and big maggot work. If the crays move in leave it and feed somewhere else for perch again.
There are lots of boats so up the shelves are your main target areas. The far bank can be very shallow but still worth a try if it’s not too clear.

I weighed in my section and dont think i saw a perch. The canal is also 12 inches down so very little water over at the moment.

So, as a man who hasnt even laid eyes on it before, what do the depths range to and from?

I fish th GUC around Northampton a fair bit, same rigs suit?

                                Any help appreciated.

GU rigs will suit the Bassi although I would say there are not as many small fish feeding in the warmer months as the GU. It is a fantastic winter venue (not that this helps you for the Div 2).

I would not discount a bread line and approach it much the same as the GU, without feeding the squat line so heavy.

If you are in one of the flashes then approach as a commercial and ensure you take some pellets (miro -2mm with soft hookers)to sort out the 8oz plus silver fish from the 1/2oz if you fish squat. However; if you are brave enough to sit out for the carp, strap yourself in and be prepared!

                                  Good luck and enjoy,

To be honest it’s very patchy species wise. Some areas are full of skimmers and some seem devoid of them, same with perch.
Keep your options open is good advice.
Hopefully there will be no boats but it’s going to be peak holiday time and all the part time Nelsons will be out!

Will hopefully be posting that I had a decent match in a couple of weeks.
