I used to use the Preston Kups kit (blue cups with blue plastic connector/thread) but last year I changed over to a new set of Drennan Cups.

I took a break from the fishing from last October and fished my first match there last weekend. I went to screw on a Drennan cup and the metal/aluminium connector on the top of my cupping kit was all corroded and once I tried to screw in the plastic thread on the drennan cup, the connector started to disintigrate and broke.

Queston is, is this a normal problem with the Drennan Cup Kits? Or will they be fine if they’re dried out properly after every weekend?

I’ll be looking for a new cupping kit set but I might have to look for a set with a plastic connector in the future.

I thought the thread on Drennan cups were steel!
never heard of one rusting though & I’ve been using them for years, never bothered to dry them out

I used them for long enough without any trouble, and have never heard of anyone else having the same.

I thought they were made from an alloy rather than steel mind? That said, steel does rust if it’s continuously submerged for long enough, and I’d guess if it’s wet since October thats long enough. Bad form to leave things wet for that long, my carp or sea gear that doesn’t get used for long periods is thoroughly cleaned and dried before putting it away.

It didn’t rust, just corroded (turned white and dusty)

Suppose sitting damp in a tube for 6 months didn’t do it any favours.

Still, a plastic connector like the old Preston one I was using wouldn’t have done the same.

I’ve had Drennan apapters and cups on poles for over 10 years, put away wet, not used for 6 months at a time and had no problems atall! Still using the original large cup from when they first came out! I wonder if the newer 1s are different, not as good?

Could be the case Nathan, as cost’s of materials rise maybe slightly cheaper metals (sounds like an aluminium alloy if it’s gone white and powdery) have been used to keep the costs the same?

I’ve got one of the originals too, on an old carp pole that I’ve had twelve years and it’s fine ~think

Sounds like a cheaper material has been used in production then.

I’ll hopefully be investing in a Daiwa Pole soon which comes with the Tournament cupping kit so hopefully my Drennan Cups will screw in. Unless the Tournament Cupping kit doesn’t come with the end threaded? I know it doesn’t come with cups.

It won’t come with the end threaded mate! The Drennan cups do fit in a Tournament adapter though but the Tournament adapters are plastic I think and a bit cheap looking.

another question I’d wonder about is, was the adapter a genuine Drennan one or a copy?

I know several products that have been available on ebay that were not genuine Drennan & therefore not up to Drennan quality standard

Genuine Drennan Polemaster product, £5.99 or £6.99 bought from a reputable tackle shop over here last summer.

~think strange one that. You’d think Daiwa would supply a cupping kit with cups! Nomatter, i’m sure another tackle company would like their logo on the end of my cupping kit…

I could be wrong mate, I didn’t even get a cupping kit with mine!
