Fourteen Exeter anglers fished an open match at Lakeview Fishery in Morchard Road Village, Devon on Sunday 8th January. Conditions leading up to the competition weren’t favourable with heavy rain increasing the water level significantly. On the day the wind was a problem for some anglers making delicate presentation of bait difficult. In the end the top weights came from the point pegs by the car park with two anglers pulling away from the rest of the field. The best approach for the majority was a 4 or 6mm expander pellet fished over micro or 4mm pellet. Accurately feeding small amounts was key to keeping the fish coming throughout the duration. Some anglers also caught on maggot but the resident micro-rudd made this more difficult. Top weight on the day picking up £60 was Graham Davey with 47lb of carp averaging a pound, Exeters new match secretary Gary Thornton took the second place prize of £40 with 45lb 8oz his catch included some larger fish with carp to 9lb. The final prize went to Mark Hayman on the favoured point swim taking home £20 for his 36lb catch. The remaining top ten as follows:
        4th, Wayne mitchell 32lb 9oz
        5th Steve Hayman 30lb
        6th Zac Newton 28lb 8oz
        7th Ade Croft 27lb 12oz
        8th Andy Bulled 27lb 4oz
        9th Keith Carpenter 26lb 4oz
        10th Eddie Evans 15lb.
The remaining Anglers did not weigh.

This Sunday January 15th sees the first round of the Victoria Products League at the associations Kia-Ora fishery in Cullompton, Devon. All annual members are welcome but must book in to the competition by telephoning 01392 662056 before midday on Saturday the 14th. The competition is billed as a silverfish event in the club book but this has changed so that all fish count due to the catches in the last silverfish match after Christmas being so poor. Please remember because of this change you will need to bring two keep nets and bait requirements maybe different for you. The draw will be held in the fishery car park at 8.30 am as usual.
