TF_NathanWatson10 – 12 Middy for me as long as they are decent F1s? If smaller, then 8 – 10.

TF_Smedyeah 5 latex is prob too light

10 to 12 for me also. use it for all my winter carp work .landed doubles on it with a pulla bung.

Giles1ParticipantStick to solid elastics.. A number 8 latex is all I have ever used for skimmers and f1s plus it gives you the chance of landing doubles if they turn up. You don’t need pulla bungs as it only makes the fish fight harder and you run the risk of losing your bonus fish. Just keep it simple

how does a piece of plastic make fish fight harder and make it more likely you will lose a bonus fish?
think of the pulla bung as a safety belt approach i,e i use doubled up five on a pulla bung which is superb but the pulla bung remains redundant unless the fish makes a lunge under the peg or for a marginal snag then you can steer it away with the pulla bung, whereas if you don’t use a pulla bung you will just watch the fish swim under whichever snag it chooses and then see you off?
annoying if it costs you a match eh? -

TF_JohnHThe basic principle here is the harder you pull the harder the fish will fight.
Try to use light gear and coax the fish in as that way you can use light set ups which will undoubtably catch you more fish. -

undoubtably catch more fish?
you stick with your method i’ll stick with mine then. -

TF_NathanWatsonJust throwing money away in my opinion! Why not use a single 8? And it will last a lot longer with a winder bung, some of mine are 14 years old!

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantWhite hydro or new pink hydro, Hydro lasts 5 years so good value for money.

TF_Smed14 years lol! you tight get! lol
each to there own i say
different anglers use different ways to play fish, i think myself im a bit clumbsy and heavy handed, so for open water i like to use as light as elastic as i can/dare and as soon as i hook a fish, ship back to my top two and play em on a pull bung, i think this is best FOR ME!, but see lots of anglers waving there pole all over the place and adding sections on etc etc, that doesnt work FOR ME! lol -

Saw a bloke use pink hydro a few weeks ago, froze and snapped 1st time out! I use solid by the way at about £1 per top kit and that lasts 14 years. Hydro is £15 and lasts 4 you say. I know which sounds best value to me!~clap

TF_NathanWatsonWorks out cheaper in the long run! As said though, even new elastic can snap! I do check it regularly now. Can’t remember the day, who caught the most and did it cost me a place?

TF_breamgodParticipanti use a single preston 5 at this time of year cause if u bump f1s in yer peg it could me
an that was yer last bite your not going to catch mega weights at the moment so why lose the chance of no weight at all and if u hook a lump then take yer time to get it in dont forget 1 lump could equal 1hr of fishing for f1s -

TF_MarcRodgerWhen we was kids back in the kingfisher days Nathan used the elastic out of his dads pants
Trust me… I think he lost his last load in his 2nd fish o final when it snaped and a carp swam off with it. He was looking for weeks after in reeds and things at hayfield but had no joy, VERY SAD TIMES FOR HIM but now he uses the elastic from his own pants TRUE STORY….

Giles1ParticipantWhy fish with elastics that are so soft you need to strip it all out to control fish? Surely someone is missing the point here?

If carp do turn up, i would step up to a yellow. -

TF_gis9I”m with Giles on this one . Anglers are using pulla kits with light elastics and lighter lines, hooks etc but surely this isn”t balanced tackle when you pull out a length of elastic when playing fish .
-
20/01/2011 at 12:17 pm #129076
TF_mickeymPulla kits are just personal preference, but being able to fish lighter hooklengths and lighter elastics reduces hook pulls. If you hit into a lump you can easily control the fish, something you would struggle to do without a pulla kit. I have pulla kits on the majority of my kits and you dont always need to use them, there used as and when needed.

TF_dave brittainMiddy Pink 12-16 Hollow Core with a puller bung. It’s a lot softer than it’s rating and will handle carp up to double figures without too many problems.
You do need to use a puller bung as it does stretch a long way.
