Twenty two anglers travelled to Taunton to fish the third round of the Victoria Products League on The River Tone. The river was in perfect condition and with chub the main target everyone was hopefull of a feature swim above or below one of the many weirs along the stretch. Throughout the match a bitterly cold north westerly wind made presenting the float difficult for many anglers as it was blowing downstream and into the near bank.
Winner on the day continuing his blistering start to the league was Wayne Mitchell (Team Jinx) who managed to land 15 chub up to 3lb for a total of 10k 440g. He caught on a size 14 with two or three maggots trotted down with a large 5 SSG loafer style float. He fed five pints of maggots during the match and even this wasn’t quite enough as he ran out towards the end of the match, the majority of his catch fell towards the far bank. Second on the day was Steve Haymen with another good bag of chub totalling 9k 250g all caught on a large 5 SSG Loafer float. Tiverton angler Glyn Spiller totalled 7k 840g to take the third prize. Section Winners; A Section – Zac Newton (Team ALS), 5k 640g; B Section – Paul Russell (Exeter) 6k 200g; C Section – Steve Jeffery (Exeter), 5k 700g
