TF_pr@nglerAm after a new feeder reel after my baitrunner started grinding yesterday.
What are the best reels out there at the moment. Would be using for match style carp fishing. I have small hands and would also prefer a reel with a large spool to stop the line bedding in

TF_wildingukdaiwas in the 3012 size, tdr or tdx, the new tdm looks nice for the cash, or the caldia x too. All similar, but at different price points.

TF_Col_WAnother vote for TDR’s.
2508 for short range method and 3012 for longer chucks, superb reels, check them out -

TF_thedogdepends on your budget but no mater what i was using a reel for it would be a shimano stradic in sizes to suit. For fishing long range i would opt for the 4000 size as the retrieve of line is faster than the 3000.The spools are the same on both reels just the reel body sizes differ so for comercial use go for the 3000 version

TF_chaveyParticipantHave a look at this American website, I bought 2 of there Prodigy reels about 3 years ago for about £30 each ( the exchange rate was better back then) they are made by Daiwa for cabelas. Mine are basically rebadged Team Daiwa Adantages but it looks like they have upgraded them since I bought mine? At the time the Advantage was £150 in the UK so its quite a saving

TF_nofishI use technium 4000’s for all feeder work and have done for 3years no problems with them at short range or long range and aren’t overly expensive for the quality.

TF_HillbillyIf you dont need it to be a baitrunner reel have a look at the Daiwa Tournament SS2600. BIG spool, sensitive front drag, not heavy and a snip at around £90. I have five of them on my longer feeder rods and have not had a problem with one yet. For shorter rods and distances the TDR or X take some beating.

TF_JohnHPeter, I have 4 TDR3012 Daiwa reels as well as a couple of the Shimano’s. You can borrow one for the next match if you wish to see how you get on with them.

TF_pr@nglerThanks for this everyone.
In the end got the TDX3012 and had a play with it this morning on a local club lake. It feels like a quality piece of kit and is very smooth.
Doesn’t help me cast any straighter though!
