Holidaying in France 3 weeks ago and catching nothing, Mates of mine were on an adjoining lake when one of them banked a 43lb mirror. The neighbouring 3 anglers went round to admire the fish so this story is an account of how 5 independent anglers tell it. The carp was nailed in the top of the mouth 3 inches in with a size 4 ESP barbed raptor hook the hook was set solid as you can imagine the owner/baliff was on hand who also declared the hook nailed well and truly and told the angler to turn around and get the forceps he turned around the other anglers watched the carp close its mouth give one almighty suck and spit everything out sending the hook double boile and 3 oz lead flying 3 ft away from the fish. The lads couldnt beleive it but the owners claims hes seen it before and big carp are very good at dislodging hooks.

IN THE WILLY EARLY days they had a fish tank in the cabin with a few fish in and carp, watching how they feed on bait was a eye opener especially those who where willing to watch and learn ,you could see the carp suck in and eject in a part of a second hence maybe why longer hair are at times a lot better

The lake owner was on about he gets all his boilies from Mainline in the UK and they have a mirrored glass tank in the warehouse full of 20lbers. If the winds blowing one direction the carp sit up one end of the tank and if the winds blowing the other way the carp sit up the other end of the tank, trouble is the tanks inside the warehouse and there is no wind but they still follow the wind !

ok so that being the case ( which i well and truly subscribe too )
how is it we’re still terrified of using method feeders etc which may tether fish?
does anyone have any evidence that this has ever happened?

yes i found tethered fish dead when cleaning a small island in our local!
they cant eject it as there is allways tension on the hook!

The guy im on about finds plenty of dead carp every year tethered alot of carp though will and do eject big barbed hooks numerous times last year i hooked into a big carp 30 plus and got snagged in old tree roots gone out in the rowing boat untangled everything and hey presto fish gone but the fish was nailed 5 min scrap before it snagged up so the hook is well and truly penetrated. His angle on banning plastic baits is also interesting there not outlawed in case a carp swallows one by accident and cant pass it they are banned because hes says if a fish does end up snagged the fish dies and rots away and leaves a rig fastened to a snag with a fake bait which another carp will eat and the whole process starts again.

Only on fixed method feeders/feeders, surely running would be no different to a running lead???

No fixed ledger rigs are any good for fish
