In a fishery thats just rammed,, ie small carp, cruies, tench, barble, f1’s you name it!! Whats the best way to target the big carp, to save working all day for 70lb of everything, there are bigish carp in there, and usually 90lb – 100+ wins, it is on most pegs around 4ft tight in the margins 6ft everywhere else, slight shelf at around 5m on most pegs. baits allowed are corn, worm, maggot, pellet, groundbait, meat. hemp but “not” paste,! last time i fished it, i caught steady all day with the odd bonus shallow on pellet and down edge on magg! , mostly f1’s and small carp shallow, and small tench n barble down edge on maggot! yet a lad opposite seemed to bag all decent carp down edge for last two hours! is this just a lucky shoal in the peg or is there a way of targeting the biguns 😎 ?????

          big bait = big fish
pellet allowed but paste not? makes sense (not!)

I know, paste used to be allowed! and it was great for sorting out the bigger stamp,, the first two times i went this year when it was allowed i had very decent weights, but it was banned because some people strike at every indication and foul hooked way to many fish!!, Tryed the bigger bait but it’s unbelievable what them small barble/tench will fit in there gobs! I’ll just have to keep going and trying new things untill i suss it!!

Hmmm, weren’t boilies thought of for this very reason. If they are banned , what is the largest pellet going. If that gets banned, how about the old style par boiled potato. If thats banned, I would ban myself.
More food for thought, prawns, cockles etc. Opel fruits, or what ever they are called now (leave the hook point showing or preferably hair rig as they go rock hard), marshmallows, soft licorice stick, peporami, chick peas, will all catch carp but may not always be suitable for a match situation

if you can’t fish paste why not use groundbait on the hook seeing as that’s allowed.?

what a strange set of rules. Care to name it so i can never go?

you could try big lassoed pellets.

No, i dont think there mental rules! it was just the odd couple of people fishing a foot overdepth with the paste, then striking like maniacs with big hooks and carving a few fish up! pretty much anything else goes, tip work needs to be inline, and any other bait bar paste on the pole!! was thinking of consentrating more on meat/hemp next visit but with a big bit of ye old oak on the hook, sort of meathod used at woodlands a few seasons ago, maybe wont work, but worth a try?? The venue is weston pools by the way, oswestry, great fishing, bites all day but such a head of different species and sizes you really need to select the bigger stamp if to do any envelopes.

I was going to suggest meat on the 5m line! Got to be worth a try.

There is one sure way to entice the bigger Carp, and that is Cat Meat. But it must be Coshida and the Beef and Gravy variety. This is deadly at dead depth especially down the edge late.Obviously feed a cup full(chopped)early, and keep feeding chunks by hand or kinder cup.Use a big piece on a size 10 pr27/28 leaving the point of the hook slightly exposed.Ignore the small knocks of the smaller fish picking at it.The Carp will turn up and your float will bury.Use a tough elastic down the edge. Some anglers fish it on a hair, but i think you get a fair share of foul hookers on this method. Most important IMO is… it must be fished at dead depth.
You can purchase Coshida Cat Meat at Ldyls, and some Aldis are stocking it now.
                      GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT LINES. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Cheers for advise, gotta admit, i forgot about the old coshida!, thats my new attack sorted, meat pulled up the 5m shelf and coshida down the edges! watch this space 🙂

If you can get them competeing shallow then the bigger fish will come as little and 3-6 inches deep. If you hair rig a pellet they will rip your elastic out.
