TF_The_SargeHi all,
I want to start tying my own rigs. I’ve got some line, hooks, loop tyer, hook tyer, but only 2 floats.
Anyone know a shop I can go into that will do a decent float range? I’ll need some help from the owner to get a range, canal, lake and commercial.
I’m between Oxford and Mton Keynes but position doesn’t matter – I travel a lot for work so end up near most places every couple of weeks.
Any thoughts appreciated.

meat masteruse said that you travel allot so if you are ever near ely cambs try benwick sports they advertise on here just click the box best range of floats under one roof..
failing that some lads on here make floats and will look after you they are better and stronger than the floats you buy from shops aswell..
hope that helps

Anonymoussarge.e-mail one of the above floatmakers/shops and explain the venues ie depths, species and baits you use and i,m certain they will advise you or sort out a float package for you.they are all reputable and anyone on here will vouch for their integrity/expertise.

TF_The_SargeHaving just tried to tie 1, and given up, I need to find somewhere to buy pre-tied non carp rigs.
Anywhere I can order them? 🙁

TF_squattSettle on a few patterns, don’t over complicate things. Hillbilly, Wilkie, and Nick Gilbert should be able to sort you out once you have seen their sites.

TF_Man of KentThe above recommendations are very good, but if you want somewhere a little more local, try J&K Tackle in Bicester. On show, they normally have a range of Prestons, Mavers and Garbolinos, but locked away in the reel display case, they also have quite a few Sensas patterns.

TF_blissParticipantHi Sarge,
If you are near MK try the boys in Gone Fishing at Wolverton. Ask for Karl who is the guru of all things matchfishing in there.
They cover a range of fishing and have a good stock of floats and ready tied rigs.
When I started pole fishing I bought a couple of pre-tied rigs and copied them, also mags like MF & APF taught me a lot with their rig diagrams.
PM me if you are passing as I work in Wolverton.

TF_The_SargeBliss, I’ll probably pop to wolverton tomorrow afternoon for a look. Need bait, more line, hooks and plastic bits that hold line to the float. And that’s if I don’t buy floats.
Don’t you love how technical I’m getting.
Let me know if you’re about?

TF_pr@nglerI’m with Loda on this one. Its worth making the effort to learn how to make your own rigs for several reasons:
* Its much cheaper
* You can be sure of quality of materials and workmanship
* You can use the materials you prefer (eg mixtures of hooks and line)
* You can develop rigs exactly to meet the requirements of the venues you fishGive it a go. Work in a well-lit room, get everything to hand etc. Don’t start with too fernickity rigs either.

TF_The_SargeWell, I’ve tied 5 rigs tonight – thanks bliss for pointing me to a good shop!
Problem isn’t the rigs, it’s the hooks! Even with the match man tyer I’ve struggled. Might have to go pre-tied hooks.
Still got to check weights on rigs, will do that tomorrow while house is empty.
I’m happy though- satisfying result. Bliss – see you on the bank soon!

TF_jonone bit of advice mate is when you shot them at home, in a large vase or something, you will have to allow for the surface tension,it will hold the float up a bit more than in a lake etc with a ripple on it, not hard to adjust when fishing, just thought i’d mention it incase you got out and the floats sank with nothing on the end, hope this helps a bit.
