Flurocarbon

No doubt this subject has been done before chaps but there is not much I haven’t tried gimmick and gear wise over the years but never yet dialed into flurocarbon line. Should I wet a toe so to speak and give it ago. I generally match fish from silvers to carp. ~think ~think ~think

I,ve been using fluorocarbon lines for about 10 years. I believe they give me an edge in the winter when im fishing on very difficult commercial venues. I,ve looked at and used quite a few different fluorocarbons. Preston Grand Match in my opinion is the best. Unfortunately, Preston Grand match fluorocarbon was discontinued last year. No idea why. I was lucky to get a few spools in 0.08, 0.10 and 0.12 before they vanished from my local tackle shops. I,ve not seen any other brands of fluorocarbon line to compare with Grand Match. Not sure what i will do once i run out in a year or two. If you can find some Preston Grand Match fluorocarbon. Grab it! Well worth the money in my opinion for difficult winter commercial venues.

The Drennan Flourocarbon Hook Length is very good and would think it’s a good replacement for the Grand Match

true blue, what lead you to decide that grand match was a better brand than others? what influenced your decisions whay does it work better for you?

i got some shimano antares flourocarbon for some top secret up in the water rigs in the summer.
it really is very good indeed.
that was in 0.18 though, i’m not sure what winter strengths would be like~think

Thanks for your thoughts on this, I guess the only way to satisfy my curiosity is to give it ago. Do you use flurocarbon for all the rig or just the hook length?~think ~think

Dodge, Grand Match is spot on in the diameter and breaking strains stated on the spools. Its won that test in every mag over the last 10 years where true diameter and strength are concerned. Its very supple for a fluorocarbon line. I,ve only seen one fluorocarbon line thats better on suppleness(Pro-micron, fluorocarbon). The line in a glass of water test convinced me to try the line in clear water conditions where the line might give me an advantage over other types of lines in difficult clear water conditions. I,ve done the glass of water test with other fluorocarbon lines and Grand Match wins that test out of sight. Sorry about the pun. Grand Match is almost invisible in water! The final thing that impressed me was the lack of weak points on the line created by shot. Fluorocarbon is hard and does not get crushed by shot like other lines. Always useful when fishing with light lines for big fish!

Oh, and i catch plenty with it in very difficult clear water conditions!
