TF_oddmanI had similar issue last year, my white hydro got ruined. Ive been using solid double slip this year instead 4s and 5s, ive left my hydros at home wont bring them out until its warmer.

TF_mickeymThis time of year ive had hydro freeze and kink. It also goes slack and hangs out of the end of the pole.
The answer to this is to poor warm water down the top kit and you find it springs back to life, the worse thing to do is to cut the elastic to get the coreect tension, beacuse come spring or when it warms back up again, it will be to tight. 🙂

tornyalParticipantAll my hydro froze solid in garage last year .it looked like electrical wire hanging out of pole sections.Took them in the house were its warm and in a couple of hours they were fine.Only use prestons original 5 +6 doubled up now in winter 😀

TF_lumpmost if not all hollows freeze when it’s freezing cold, simple as.

Is that something you’ve had first hand experience of (all hollows freezing) ?
Because I was toying with the idea of using preston hollow instead of hydro….
I thought it would only be hydro that froze due to the liquid inside

TF_GavinI’m pretty sure it’s a problem with all hollows – I’ve had Preston 11h do the same when it’s been very cold (last winter), something to do with the hollow core as I’ve seen others using different brand hollows suffering too!
By the way, if that hydro is a year old I’d be willing to bet if you cut it there’ll be no liquid inside it 🙂

TF_lumpi use vespe, preston, hydro, they all freeze/harden. All rubber will harden at low temps, that’s why summer and winter car tyres are different. i think latex and solids are made of different compounds. maybe a niche for a winter hollow for the manufacturers?

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantHydro is not a hollow elastic its liquid filled that expansion causes the problem

TF_Baz265-12Participantlooks like i need to take 2 flasks with me in winter …..
1 with coffee and 1 with hot water for elastic
maybe they could add some sort of anti freeze to the liquid ?

TF_lumpit’s the rubber shrinking/hardening. antifreeze wouldn’t work.
