None. In my experience NORMAL gelatine (the animal-based stuff) has been the kiss of death on expanders. I’d use the vegetarian option which has seemed better. I don’t know why but I’ve really struggled with any jelly-pellets except made with this:

I believe the Marukyu JPz (jelly pellets) are set using a gum but I can’t be sure. But they aren’t really pellets, just pellet-shaped jellies.

I have tried using gelatine but its very much hit and miss with it.I have stopped pumping expanders now and gone back to the old way.I don’t know what’s wrong with expanders now but they soon seemed to go into a mush very quickly.I gave up altogether with the gelatine.

Same here i buy good quality Ringers pellets, pump them until they sink, but an hour later they are floaters again. Am i doing something wrong?

don’t let them dry out – if they dry out they will start to float again – make sure you keep them moist.

Grind your expander’s up and use them in your groundbait, then purchase some Cornish bagging pellets. Soak them, they will all sink without pumping and they will soften without going mushy.

Look up June 2010 edition of Match fishing magazine, Matt Hall explains how to prepare expanders with gelatine, if you follow his instructions to the letter you’ll have perfect expanders every time, plus they can be prepaired in large numbers and then frozen in smaller batches enough for a session at a time. Have a go at this it works.

bram, how did you find the matt hall article?
like you i have problems with gelatined pellets and would like to get them as perfect as others seem to do.
used to use the van den eynde jellets but cannot find them anymore.
                        many thanks,

                          hi cormorant

just found it by chance as been looking through old back issues.

have tried what matt hall says and does seem to work although i dont think i soaked the pellets long enough as they was smaller than my soaked 4mm feeders

I’ve been using Ringers 4.5 cold water pellets they end the perfect size for me.
