TF_JabjabTo help raise funds to send vets, ladies and disabled to next year’s world championships;
how often can you pay less that £100 for a day with a TOP angler…?!!! Happy bidding!

TF_lumpdon’t wish to piddle on your chips, but i’d rather enter a raffle than an auction, not everyone can throw a week’s food money away on a whim.

TF_happy as larryThink they need to hire Lord Sugar for some business advice, but, as they haven’t got the finances (or the intellect to realise they haven’t got a clue) I’ll offer my advice for free.
AT are responsible for the running of the nationals, Angling Trust Masters, now the Winter League (forrmerly the Angling Times etc WL) not to mention Fishomanias etc. Am I right?
They have all these star anglers at their disposal, who have very kindly offered their time, in return for a day for someone bought on Ebay. Like others have pointed out – albeit the foundations are a great idea, it makes it very elitist, and the average working man won’t have a chance.
Like you say, a raffle surely makes more sense (despite there being some daft rules about gambling licences etc I’m fairly sure they’d be able to swing it for the good cause etc etc).
They have the name of all the competitors in nationals – I’m guessing – before the match itself (ie teams have to register a certain amount of people). Instead of sending some info on how they’ve helped clean a ditch up in Livepool when you live in London (tongue in cheek, the work they do is outstanding but not relevant to all) send a note out offering tickets at £2 a shot, with a maximum of five per registered individual, for the star angler day out.
I’m guessing most of these auctions on ebay won’t go for more than about £300, as a day can be booked direct for about this price – say they go for £400. Would you sell 200 tickets at a national? Errrr, with five hundred anglers there, and the cost just £2, I would think so…. Especially if said angler or another supportive high profile person was on stage etc etc – it’s called PR….
2nd idea – introduce a friend to the AT and win a day with…. Increase in membership would again account for far more than any ebay auction will generate. If you introduce a new member to the AT by say, end of November, you are entered into the draw to win a day with one of 10 star anglers….
I’m a member of the Angling Trust (I join because I have to, sorry to be so honest) and their marketing is shocking for both new and existing members.
They should partner with high profile people (for free, such as – win an I-phone whatever) the company (in this instance Apple) will be more than happy to give away said item, that costs about three pence, in return for editorial, advertising etc and an audience. What do others think?

TF_happy as larryPS – I’m sure, some executive from the AT will defend their side, which is fine. And, to be honest, I’m sure a lot has gone on behind the scenes that I don’t know about. But isn’t that the point, I’m a member and I haven’t a clue what’s going on.

TF_SliderYou guys are out of order.
At least Julie ( one of the nicest people in angling ) is trying to do something for herself and her team, in the end if you choose to bid you do get a days fishing with someone of your choice. If you cant afford it then dont bid, simple.
I say we should support the ladies and junior teams where possible and not bad mouth on fishing forums.

TF_happy as larryHi Slider,
I’m sure the lady you point to, and many others, do a fantastic job. And of course the ladies and the juniors should get the support they need. But to be honest, if you asked the majority of AT members where the revenue raised should go, then I would suggest 5% or less would suggest it going to the ladies and junior international teams. Harsh, but true.
That funding should be provided elsewhere, otherwise it’s all a bit of a joke. If sport England, or an external sponsor won’t support them, we have problems. It’s a sad fact, but the reason license fees aren’t increased to fund such projects is because the average man (angler, women included) doesn’t want to pay for such services. They don’t care, or even realise, we have an international team!
I’m not having a dig Slider as you make a valid point RE individuals trying to make a difference, and they should be appluaded.
Unfortunately, charity begins at home, and the majority of people aren’t going to be persuaded to send a group of ladies, juniors, or men on a week’s long trip, fishing a match with barely any recognition. They may, however, be persuaded to invest in the future, and safety, of angling.

TF_SliderLike i said above, this is someone trying to make a differene to her team plus the vets and disabled, why turn it into a rant about the Angling Trust of which I assume you are a member ?
This is fund raising for the international teams listed not the Angling Trust.
If you have a problem with the AT then start a new thread or use your words far more wisely and actually talk to them about it. You can write all you like on here, nobody from the AT reads it so its a waste of space.
Nobody is asking for money with no return here, its about buying something you might like, if you dont like it then dont buy it.
Why taint this perfectly reasonable request for help with politics ?

That’s totally out of order Fred. From what I understand these anglers have given their time for FREE to help out the teams – how have you helped the teams, please let us all know, we are waiting.
A free jolly – you’ve obviously never been or seen a world champs and how knackered all the team are when they get back after a week away.
Did YOU buy a raffle ticket that the ladies’ team were selling when you could win a day with BOB NUDD, MICK BULL, MICK BROWN and the other 7 TOP anglers?? Oh, and how much did the tickets cost, £1 to be precise.
Stop having a go at someone like me who has taken the time to publicise this event.
PS this is to raise funds for the teams. We do not receive any money from AT subscriptions in order to travel. If you weren’t aware, the ladies raised nearly £10,000 THEMSELVES last year in order to compete
