I have to say that I was incredibly disappointed at the quality of a pasty that I consumed at Gold Valley Lakes last week.

It was incredibly expensive, very cold and the mince was decidedly unpleasant. The potato chunks were also not cooked properly.

After a few mouthfuls I could not face any more of it so chucked in the general direction of a canadian goose. The goose sniffed it a couple of times and then simply walked away.

I really do think that fisheries should adhered to a minimum standard when it comes to providing their customers with food.

I for one, will not be eating there again.

        Thanks,

        John Grey

Probably because Gold Valley wasn’t in Cornwall last time I looked! Only place to get proper cornish pasties is Cornwall.

White acres, in my opinion, has the best food and cleanest facilities.
I have seen some real sheds in my time knocking out butties with one hand with a fag on in the other!!
My advice would be to avoid the pasties, you never know how old they are, and stick to bacon sarnies.

There are a number of issues here.

The general standard of food that is available at fisheries. It is poor. Very poor indeed.

Where more than a bacon roll is available, fishery owners pat themselves on the back after serving up a fatty mix of fried breakfast. And we rejoice in the fact that we can to choose between one sausage or two.

We can only blame ourselves. Like lemmings we accept these low standards of nutrition, filling our mugs of tea with sugar before quaffing it down, shoving a slice of buttered white bread into our mouths at the same time.

Then we saunter to our pegs, pushing our trolleys a few yards and panting like weโ€™ve had a good workout. Sweating profusely, we collapse on our box and proceed to fart all day, letting the fat congeal in our arteries. We might even devour that Ginsterโ€™s slice that we bought from the ESSO garage on the way that morning.

Itโ€™s time we addressed the issue of food at fisheries. Otherwise weโ€™ll all be lying in a box, not sitting on one.

                  Thanks,

While I sympathise with you for purchasing cack food that could potentially give you a bad stomach upset, why feed it to the geese? Why not go back in and politely make the seller aware of the fact it was not heated properly and of poor quality? I know it’s a hassle, and possibly you’d like to avoid confrontation (I know I do!), but at least they would be aware of the situation, and may do something about it in the future. You may have also got a refund ๐Ÿ™‚

The legendary Barston remortgage your house special.

Packington Somers do a good breakfast – just wear your ear plugs for the smoke alarm.

The club usually arrange breakfast at a local pub – always the best bet.

One cooked breakfast a week never killed anybody.

Although we all joke about the plastic breakfast at mcdonalds, there are many times it has worked out cheaper and safer than some fisheries breakfasts.where a 2nd mortgage is required before ordering, and asking to see the health certs after eating ๐Ÿ™ .
but until we as start voting with our feet and stop buying the bad ones then surely changes will have to be made for the better.otherwise we may as well start a campaign to open all the little thiefs again for the early starter rip off breakfast. ๐Ÿ˜€

I don’t mind being forced to purchase a fishery’s particular brand of trout pellet either. However, it’s seems perfectly clear to me that they give plenty of thought to the diet of their fish but are quite happy to posion their visiting anglers.

Incidentally, the goose refused to eat the pasty, yet it was perfetcly happy to eat a pile of goose s**t that was lying next to it. This would seem to suggest that the offending pasty in question was hardly a gastronomic delight.

                                          Thanks

I once fished at Ironbridge and was distracted pre-match by the shoppe displaying a sign for ‘World Famous Pasties’.

Well you just have to, don’t you ?

Dribbling with anticipation, I was no more than twenty yards and two mouthfulls from the shoppe when it went in the bin !

Talk about terrible ??? It was one of the most severe let downs of my angling career.

All the best breakfasts I’ve ever had have been ones I’ve done myself or ones organised at the Local Pub where their reputation for food has already been established.

Fisheries just don’t have the culinary skills to boil an egg that’s why you could never get one poached..

sorry- can’t see many takers for ‘jamie oliver’ gourmet friggin ‘salad at draw- maybe wrong, but my experience is that angling provides a good excuse for a full-on english brekkie and remains one of the main attractions. If you want to partake in the seemingly new bourgeois trend of ‘foraging’ – or engage in collect ing water cress on the way – fine but =please dont inflict it on the rest of us.

PMSL – the poor bloke with the allegedly dodgy ‘Gold Valley’ ‘cornish’ pastie, who made a fair point about the geese though, would imagine the fish also might well agree if it had been ‘margined’.

Angling caffs remain one of the few places left in uk in which you can still enjoy eating stuff in defiance of basic hygioene, health and safety, etc. – lets face it – most of us would eat most of the bait and groundbait we bring – if the anticipated brekkie supply was shut.
Eating cr@p is traditional – where you would’nt even look at the same wares even if pi**ed and standing in some dubious all night kebab emporium.
Matchmen often describe carp as ‘pigs with fins’ – i think the carp might surely find that libellous after watching match-anglers tuck in – the look of anxiety when the draw is made is nothing to the state of hyperactive tension when the brekkie order number is called out – and the haste to collect the savoury delight in before someone claims to have the same number – not that that mishap has historically ever occurred.

Come to think of it – that Mega Macdonals situated at the Olympics was rammed!

I’m sure some porky heaver feeder would give an arm and a leg for even a chance in hell, to be picked or paid in free grub to do a major ‘in-depth’ user review of national UK fisheries cafe.
Indeed, i.m sure a certain middle aged midlands canal match organizer that would probably pay money to be become any prospective reviewer. A feature on recipe man F/Blues’ ‘tight-lines’ would i d’ guess double episode audiences and confirm the national media prejudice about us.

one sausage , two or eight starred , presentation, nutrtional value, bulk, value for money, portion size and weight(before and after) and a 1-5 coronary rating and a pull out on ‘bacteria special’ might seem mild.

Let’s have a vote for favourite fishery cafe and why you rate it.

I was expecting a better class of breakfast, since coarse anglers can be a little ‘rough around the edges’ and their expectations of food are arguably less high.

The bell rang for breakfast and when I turned up at the lodge it was just sitting there. No cover on it and the woman who cooked it sat in a corner looking miserable, not even asking if it was enjoyable or everything was ok.

Terrible service all round that day I’m afraid.

I went a second time because any one can have an off day, I ordered a bacon roll, the bacon was deep fried and not drained so where it had curled up in the fryer the bacon was saturated with minging old oil, this soaked into the bread roll and was absolutley disgusting.
