tt….I used to love him and saw all his early films as a lad.I can remember bunking in at the local fleapit(Richmond)to watch one film 5 times.

A man of many talents, I never realised until today that he wrote the lyrics for the Vera Lynn classic ‘White Cliffs of Dover’!

Most of his films were made in and around the streets of Windsor and my personal favourite ‘On the beat’ was filmed in and around the streets where I lived – if anyone remembers the bit where he’s being chased over the garden fences by loads of coppers, well that was my back garden!

Somewhere in the family is a photo of him in his police uniform holding me as a baby of about a year old and I’d always hoped to get him to sign it but that will never happen now I guess.

Apparently Charlie Chaplin said that he was the only person who could ever replace him on the silver screen – what a compliment from another all-time great.

RIP Norman you have and always will put a smile on people’s faces.

i agree with you all.the funniest thing i remember seeing him do was when he was told to paint a ship and he tried to paint the part that was underwater.a very funny man.RIP.

A decent man whom came from very hard beginings. Sad loss and a much better straight actor than he was ever given credit for.

What I loved about Norman was that he was never big headed pig ignorant or arrogant unlike most of todays so called ‘celebs’ who think that their sh*t doesn’t stink and that the world revolves around them. By all accounts Norman kept one of the old!! suits he wore in his films to remind him just where he came from. Thanks for the wonderfull films Norman and rest in peace,
