It’s very sad that 2 horses did not go home after the Grand National on saturday. As expected, the anti enjoyment brigade have come out in force condemning the historic race. Remember these are the same people who are trying to ban our fabulous sport.

Hundreds of people are involved in road accidents every day, but we do not try to ban driving.
Every weekend children brake legs playing football and rugby, again no one tries to ban these games. These are people getting injured not animals. May be animals are held in higher regard than humans.

No i did not back the winner, I did not even have a bet in the race, I cannot pick a winner of a 2 horse race let alone one of the hardest races of the year. I am not supporting the race because I got the winner.

My heart goes out to the connections of the horses that perished, Remember sh*t happens, that is why loo roll was invented.

Time to get off my soap box and let you nice folks have your say.

I managed an E/W bet on Seabass and won £9.75, im not a big gambler, I had to ask how to fill the betting slip in! With regards to the un fun brigade that try to ban every bloody thing im surprised they manage to get out of bed in a morning, I would have thought One of their risk assesments would have deemed that too dangerous, there boring people and personally I dont have any time for them, another 20 years and we will all be baggy trousered ballet enthusiasts if we are driven by these limp wristers !!!!!

It seemed like there was a lot of faffing about at the beginning what with that little leprachaun being chucked off the about to be glue and burgers favourite.
(would they have held the race up for one of the 250/1 shots i think not)
Then a couple of officials fannying around with the tape getting everyone in a stew.
I’m not too sure whether the National could ever be made safe or if most of the nation really care anyway.
It’s a shame when some of the horses get killed but will that stop it?
As the only race horse most people watch each year i seriously doubt it.

Saw some of the Friday afternoon racing which was billed as “ladies Day” on TV.

Sadly, it seems none of the ladies were able to attend but a couple of thousand local scrubbers and slappers were able to pitch up, at what was obviously very short notice.

In hindsight was it a sound idea to run Synchronised in the National just a few weeks after the horse won the Gold Cup . He was a champion Gold Cup winner who had just won fortunes for his owners and Trainer plus the incident at the start of the National put his participation in the race in doubt , if they pulled him out there and then Synchronised would still be with us , or did greed take over ?

Very sad that any horse should lose its life…

Even worse bad luck is that it was the defending gold cup champion who was fataly killed,he definetely deserved his place in the line up even after jigging mcoy off….

Felt very sorry for jonjo as this must have brought horrible memories of him riding Alverton who also lost his life in the National after winning the Gold Cup..

Rob, you obviously never went to The Grafton, they were lookers mate!

On a serious note a lot of the papers aren’t making clear that Syncronised’s injury happened after he fell with McCoy and took off jumping the fences of his own free will. My mate has lost his two best in a freak accident on the gallops and by the other getting cast in his box. If you have anything to do with horses in any sphere you realise that this stuff happens, the antis might want to do some checks on how many get hurt/killed 3 day eventing but that won’t happen given who does it……..

As an aside I’d add most of the worst incidents I’ve seen in 40 odd years racing have all been on Flat.

I don’t know much about horse racing but when 5% of the horses die and only 37.5% finish it seems to me that the course might be a bit too demanding!

The rspca man on radio 4 thought the best idea was to reduce the field as many of the fallers where brought down by fellow riders and loose horses and not ban it out right. Just wait til they properly chase our tails. If they do we would argue amongst ourselves create small fighting bodies which would argue with each other. It would be like a scene from the ‘life of Brian’. Joining the angling trust now may just help that future battle as the trust seem to be gaining more members.
Just be grateful the rspca don’t do a big campaign on poorly run over stocked commercial fisheries with some unlucky parrot mouth, half fin-less carp swimming around in their own sxxx. The second thing to be grateful for is the public couldn’t at the momment give a stuff about fish their health and what they swim in . I regularly fish a public water and if i land a fish joe public will often come over for a look and a chat. I don’t think they would be so happy if it was a duck i’d hooked . The public will report an injured duck than a few dead and drying fish. They will cotton on one day and all the clean water, natural habitats that we’ve created along with all with the great work fundraising, keeping troublemakers out of trouble will be meaningless and we will be following some very different rules.
