Hair rigged 6mm meat on the bomb?

Did ok on this SetOct and Nov in our club matches, question is how you all hairigging it or are you not hairigging it does anyone still fish bomb baits on a straight hook ?, maybe small meat on a big 12 same effect as harigging I suppose ? Im looking at speeding things up some of the places Ive been fishing Ive had 40lb of big silvers on this method when some of the worm and caster anglers have struggled for half that ,I normally just hair rig and use a tiny bait stop but this is fiddly when your catching 60 plus fish,I tried some of the smallest quick stops, they looked untidy they were tearing and damaging the meat most times, same problem with a band in a hair splits the tiny pieces of meat Ive even thought about not hairigging it and using a straight size 12 hook, does anybody still fish baits on the bomb without a hair rig.Suggestions please, Anthony

Quickstops are superb for that size of bait imho.

If you are having problems with the meat splitting it may be the brand you are choosing rather than the Quickstop. I use either Morrison’s or Co-op.

The only downside with the Quickstop is that you can get through a few in a session as they are not very robust and they are also fiddly to tie.

If hair rigging without Quickstops I tend to use bits of spaghetti and if I was expecting the fishing to be hard I would rather use that as a preference.

Quick stops and banding are my normal ways when fishing the bomb and hair rigged baits but try fuse wire for speed and if your wanting to use different sizes of meat on the same hair.

How do you use fusewire trueblue? do you hair a length, then push it through the bait and bend the end over?

Ive just done a quick google and fox do a luncheon meat prop in three different sizes. The smallest one with just a simple hair and loop might be what your after. Also it might be worth modifying something to make a very fine baiting needle so it splits the meat less. Also like has been said maybe a tougher brand might help.

Can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with quickstops with punched 6mm meat, are you punching the meat or using cubes? I ask as for some reason I find punching the meat makes it a bit more durable!

Punched meat plumrose but not punching from a thick slice 8mm I find this fishing deadly for chub & Ide

Make a hair with a small loop to suit. Thread a bit of fuse wire though the hair loop. Twist the fuse wire to make a banet Get a piece of meat. Push the fuse wire banet though the meat and bend it to hold the meat. If using a very small piece of meat. The fuse wire might be to long to just be bent on the back of the meat in a similar way to the quick stops. However, you can bend the fuse wire further so it can come back in to the meat giving a good hold on the small bit of meat. Quick, neat and tidy way of hair rigging meat of differening sizes without damaging the meat to much. If you want to use a very big piece of meat on the same hair. Remove the fuse wire and add a longer piece of fuse wire and twist to create a longer banet. I have several different sizes already cut in my box. Takes 5 seconds to change the fuse wire.

You can also cut a bit off the thick/female end of the quickstop to reduce the chance of splitting the cube. Obviously not too much or the needle wont fit in.

That sounds a neat idea fuse wire thanks for replies incidentally, does anyone still fish baits on the hook when bomb fishing or is it all hairriging now ? I wonder how lond before fishing a bait directly on a hook takes to come back in ?

Nathan thats what ive always used, just questioning is there anything quicker catching 60 odd silverfish on this method plus the little silvers which disintergrate your meat means your baiting up 100 times, just wonderd what would be quicker, ive tried the quick stops there just too big and fiddly, ive trimmed em down too, fuse wire looks like a good idea

Hi Anthony Take a look at the link below at The Gryes Prodigy bait anchores. We designed these in 2010 , But more for the specialist coarse angler , and the size of them were usable but not ideal for what a Match angler may want. So I suggested that we take them down a size , and we now have the finished Product. Once you see them you will see you can cut the bait anchor down to the size you need for your meat.
You can either put them on a hair or straight to the hook

I really like the idea of fusewire, it got me to thinking, so i had a mess around and used some of them white strips with wire in that you use to twist around bags to seal them, it works awesome and is super quick!

Anthonywaters: If you can fish the pole at dead depth on a short line then fishing meat on the hook will outfish the hair every day of the week.

The only time that the hair will out fish is either if you have overfed and have too many fish in the peg or you are waiting for one bite and you are not concentrating.

If you are able to fish meat directly on the hook on the pole you can get away with incredibly small hookbaits to large hooks (2mm to 18’s B911!) but I find that this is normally just when the weather is warming around April/May and the window to bag is only 6/52.

Mike, majority of bomb fishing i do is 20+ meters also pole is quicker and it isnt, i use a little bomb rod, I put a feeder on initially have a chuck with that and get a bit of meat cloud going on then put a small bomb on and fish it out, I use a tiny 6mm cylinder of meat on the hair with a pr 36 size 20 and bites are instant,i only top up when bites start drying up, one match begining of Nov i put 3 feeders( small Drennan cage) in in 5 hours im using very little bait and the bait I do use in the feeder has gone twice through a maggot riddle, this has worked very well in autumn and generally outscored worm and caster on multiple mixed venues on most occasions.I dont suppose its a method that will work on a big carp venue as it will attract the attentions of smaller fish but when your catching 8oz skimmers & chubide Ive got the method right, just wondered if the hairriging could be tweaked a little, im going to have a meddle with fuse wire and im going to get some of those Greys bayonet type things aswell, the information given by everyone on this thread has been very usefull and I hope everyone that reads it has an insight in to a method which I think is very good.Anthony

if you’re rebaiting 100 times in a match, I would think you’d have just enough time to bait a second hooklength whilst waiting for the bites.

Man of Kent, this scaled down meat fishing on the bomb and introducing odd feeder full of cloudy meat has caught me lots of autumn fish you should try it, not right now like lol too cold now

Man of Kent: That is the way I would go and have several hooklengths tied up and just unclip and replace the trace, refill the feeder, cast out then unhook the fish and rebait that trace……

Seems to go against the, “Only one baited hook…. ” Rule but no one seems to complain about three method feeders lying in a groundbait bowl or the banded pellet still being on the float rod when you are fishing the pole either!

Anthonywaters: Just made myself a cup of tea and was thinking about the differences in how regions fish particular methods:

Fishing Willow Park the best bit of ten years ago I was surprised that the locals were liquidizing meat directly into their groundbait and unless you were told you would never know it was there!

Here in the Midlands I tend to keep the meat in water and it you are using meat that has been pushed through a riddle the cloud it gives off is amazing. Add to that that by the end of five hours fishing your pole takes on a ‘showroom’ finish too and it all seems to be a bonus. Just remember to clean your Kinders/Toss Pots with boiling water to avoid a horrendous job the next time you hit the bank! 😮

Not sure whether it was in Norfolk or up Cudmore or down at Withy that it was cubed meat coated in icing sugar then groundbait but I have been down that route too. Icing sugar being what ‘Magic Meat Powder’ is but a quarter of the price!

What method are you using to prepare your feed?

Also, have you tried Polony as a hook bait? Great consistancy as there is no fat running through it as large chunks.

My hook bait is 6mm plumrose punched from 3, 8mm thick slices, and my feeder meat is rest of the can cut into 3mm slices then twice through the smallest riddle you could blitz it i suppose. Your only looking to put out a bit of a scent and cloud in the swim with a few particles its not meat feeder fishing too much and you will feed em off. I know what you meat about your pole having a showroom finish, I fished meat cloud on the pole, fishing shallow and feeding 4pts through a kinder cup down at White acres this year on the baittech festival had a brilliant days fishing and won the section but 1hr into the match i couldnt breakdown my pole was so greasy !!!!!
