I watched the Jamie Masson feature on tight lines where he hair rigged maggots on a bayonet.
I have seen this principle used before on bagging wag and pellets but never before on maggot.
I assume the bayonet must have a barb on it to stop the maggot slipping off and wondered who makes these? Is it an alternative to straighten out a barbed hook and use that?
One final comment, does this contravene any fishery rules regarding barbless only even though technically its not a hook?

Mustad make the bait spikes, and yes they have several small barbs on them to keep the maggots on. I think they call them method spikes and they are intended for fishing a boilie on the method feeder.

I have found using a small bait band on the hair rig and super gluing the maggots to it to work, i.e. a medusa. You’d be surprised how many fish you can catch on it before the maggots need changing.

I’m not saying a bait spike is a wrong choice for hair rigging maggots, I just find the above way works for me especially so when the fish are attacking everything falling through the water.

maybe in winter or on hard going days the spike might have an edge but I’m not overly convinced yet.
