Been having a dabble at making my own but not happy with the finish was wondering what paint etc. people are using, have been trying dope and humbrol and floor varnish, cellulose sand sealer /cellulose paint, varnish.

Not doing this commercially only for my own use and still buy from ng,malman etc but love having a good day on a float i have put together and survives
        .
        Thanks in advance

I don’t know how good it may work on floats but when I am model making I have found the games workshop water based paints excellent, easy to thin down for spraying and the finish is good.

          Might be worth a try.

hi toby if your using cellulose have you tried hard as nails as a finish ,i use sanding sealer 2or3 coats to seal then a black gloss enamel 1or2 coats then model makers varnish put it on thin as you can build a nice finish it takes time but its worth it in the end, just dont mix cell/enamelor it will ruin your finish, hope this helps regards tonyh

Ive tried making floats and tried all the Humbrol paint and they just crack, you need to speak to all the pro float makers they use more superior materials.
