It was a very fickle day for me. Was it the high pressures and low temps that really put the mockers on it, or just the lack of water?

Tipped back must have been last on the lake, had loads of bites and loads of small roach (40 to the lb size fish). On reflection Ive had worse matches though, the weather was nice the banter was funny and I got bites could have been alot worse.

Lack of water? you joshin? you must mean stillwaters then? There was easily 12ft on rattling through the severn at Bridgo on Friday night. I dont do commercials, so i would not know whats going on with them.

Here in the Midlands we are still needing more rain, as any that falls is soaked up by the low water table or is pushed straight to the rivers thanks to the concrete masses being built on land that would normally have held on to the water.

Most large lakes and reservoirs around Warwickshire are still needing a foot or more of water despite the odd deluge.

Fished a club match on the Grand Union at Tring. Levels also down, only 4ft down the track.
The Ressies at Tring which top the canal up are extremely low, so much so that boat movements have been stopped. Anyway I struggled for 6 micro gudgeon which I tipped back
before the end. There was also a bloke in his garden behind my peg using a chainsaw which
was not nice, especially with my slight hangover. The fish were shoaled up in two pegs and the winner and 2nd had 12lb and 7lb respectively mainly skimmers and roach and a few rudd.
Shame really as the conditions seemed sock on…

                        2lb 1 and a spit…..38 fish :p

As you say Simon conditions seemed to be set for a decent days fishing for everyone on Sunday but the fish were where they felt at home and were not obliging until the light levels started to fall. As we were weighing in the roach were topping everywhere, that earlier had been barren of any signs.

The low water and clarity certainly made them nervous, as soon as any sustained ripple came along I could winkle out a few, and when it went so did the bites.

Roll on next match I can’t wait!!!
