TF_Waveney OneThe oldest club that I am a member of is reputedly the Gipping Angling Preservation Society which according to the handbook was “Established 1868”.
No, I cannot personally vouch for it or what the rules were at the time but in the earlier days of my membership (the late 1970’s) when I moved to Suffolk I have met 80 year olds who were members in their 20’s which takes it back to the early 1910’s who say that it had been going long before they joined.
Ipsich Borough Council gave a dinner every year for the Old Contemptibles which was later extended to all those who fought in the Great War. We had a tradition whereby the committee members acted as a taxi service to run the old soldiers to and from the dinner. A number of the old chaps that I ferried had been members of the GAPS club at one time or another.

TF_simon paveyDid you think of Uxbridge Rovers Brian?
founded circa 1884. I think Ron has been in the club ever since then……I am also a a member of North Harrow Waltonians which I believe originated at around the same time…….
I also think Mr Francis Francis was around and writing fishing articles a few years before that, not sure when that unique club was formed?

TF_The RunnerFormed 1934- none of the founder members left but we do still have one old boy who joined as a junior in 1936. He only fishes very occasionally now, but up until 18 months ago was still carrying out bailiffing duties for us !
