TF_geepsterParticipantI’ve decided to do a bit more big fish angling this year and on Thursday am going night fishing with a guy called Duncan Charman in the hope of my first double figure bream…..
Yep, night fishing – bivvies, head torches, sleeping bags, Razzle, the lot LOL.
Question…
Have I finally gone mad?

TF_redarmyyou would have a good chance of a double at a1 pits at newark ive had them to just under 9lb in the day and the average was 8lb they are supposed to be up to 14lb in there

TF_geepsterParticipantYeah have heard that about A1 pits.
The place I’m fishing has lots of fish in that range too (or so I’m told) – it’s a CEMEX water.
They have spawned now though so are down a couple of pound.
I’ve had two 9lb 7oz bream – one from a pit a mate of mine owns (actually it was from a silt pit behind the main lake that no-one fishes) and the other from a river believe it or not – the River Wensum at Lenwade.
I saw this thing at the bottom of my keepnet, and thought it was a carp at first. When I looked closer I realised it was a huge bream and dropped a bit of breadflake in front of its nose and bingo! -

TF_thedogBaden Hall old dam lake is full of them. best to go when the carp are spawning gives them big slabs more of a chance to settle. i had 11 fish for just over 100lb biggest 10lb 4oz and lost the last fish.

TF_Patrick MacInnesIf you’re out with Duncan then you’re in the right hands – very prolific angler who fishes so simply it makes the mind boggle sometimes. I’m crucian fishing with him tomorrow (and Alan Stagg) and I expect both these great all-rounders will come up trumps.

TF_Serious SamBream that size are a site to behold, about crapped my pants the first time I caught one in one of our club lakes there’s that “it can’t be real” moment.
Wouldn’t want to devote a season to it but if it’s a one off trip I’d grab it with both hands if I were you.

TF_Nigel.I would go to Walthemstow no 1 is it where the bream are all doubles! The carp lad that come here keep moaning about them, lol.
I am not sure about night fishing though, i have a feeling you cant, you will have to find out and if not you will have to make an early start! -

TF_geepsterParticipantWelcome back Fordster… it seems you know where he will be fishing. I know it’s ‘somewhere down south’. I’m meeting him in a layby and then he is tying a sack over my head so I can’t tell anyone where it is…. The dark side, literally….

TF_baitchefParticipantI’ll let you into a little secret, if you go down to The Thames at Caversham bridge (the free stretch behind the hotel), there are some right slabs there, not quite doubles, but not very far off.
River fish, reald old warriors as well. -

TF_geepsterParticipantI know you must all be on the edge of your seats so here’s the bullet point update:
1) Very stressful day at work indeed
2) Wanted to leave work at 3, left at 5
3) Ran into M25 hell
4) Got there at 8 (should have been 6.30) – gate locked. Yawn.
5) Pain getting to swim but Duncan had done bizz in terms of baiting up
6) Two fish before midnight on Method and ‘corn stacks (two real grains, one floating imitation) at about 70 yards – 6lb and 8lb
7) Nothing through the night at all
8) Got up at 4am and went for it
9) Two more fish between 5am and 6am, 8lb and 8lb 10oz
10) Went to work at 7.30am, got there at 9.30
11) Duncan pulled a rabbit out of a hat at 10am with an out of the blue 12-pounder, the only double of the night – John was still there so we have our TV programmeI thank you….
