TF_Mick FordhamMust have somewhere around 500 to 600 tied-up at least (i’m not going to count them) in various hook-length boxes and on those round daiwa hook retaining spools (got loads of these for feeder hook-lengths).
Why is it with this many, you still run out of the ones you want to use….. lol….

TF_Waveney OneI find it amazing that someone would actually count them! How sad is that!
The only hooks that I tie up in advance are a few for the R. Yare where we get loads of eels. I probably have 1/2 a dozen left from my last trip in September but won’t tie any more until June.
For carp fishing and silver fish in the winter I tend to change the rig rather than a hook length.

TF_One Out of the FrameAbout 25 LESS than the last time I fished at Barston and was catching perch one a go by the inlet pipe on the roadside!
I’ve haven’t bagged on perch for a long time but can’t recall getting through so many hooks. I was using Drennan Flourocarbon. Is it weaker than normal mono?

TF_Serious SamI got a hook box with about 150 in I should think, seems sensible to me to tie them ahead of time rather than doing them on the bank.
Do them at home, have them ready and have them all right or do it on the bank when your fingers are cold and wet and shivering so it takes ten times as long and maybe get a crappy knot, no brainer for me.

TF_jwbSadly I have around 150 inmy river Preston boxes, around 100 in my Commercial boxes and only around only 60 in my canal collection (but I will soon correct that)]
I must be one sad b*rsteward. ~think -

TF_Mick FordhamMo,
Not going to Coleman’s, couldn’t get the time off work as we have too many managers away on a training course (which means I have the pleasure of doing all their work and looking after their staff, as well as my own…. lovely).
Hope it’s a good day for you all.
Cutnut,
Yes, I must get a life….. I just sit there tying them whilst the misses watches those awful soaps….

Average-AlParticipantI,m with Serious Sam, a total no brainer not to be prepared with pre tied hook lengths. I have about 250 and enjoy tying them. An hour every now and then is all it takes to have a good selection of all the various hooks lengths you need.

TF_NathanWatsonBe a shame if they all get wet and go rusty! I have 20 to 50 normally which is plenty for my fishing.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantJust tie what you need for a match or weekend I was a chef for twenty years and failing to prepare is preparing to fail but prepare too much it will be wasted. If you tie 500 hooks do they not ingress with moisture and oxidise ?
