TF_fishcatcher4i always think if the fish can tell the difference, they must be too clever for me.i think its the same when pumping expanders at home,i cant see it making any difference at all.

TF_simon paveyhow can anyone tell if it makes any difference?
we don’t drink lake water and fish don’t live in tap water. but tap water does contain chemicals that don’t occur naturally in lake water.
personally I would always use the venue water . -

TF_Waveney OneRain water or that from the garden pond. It is the chlorine in tap water that I believe the fish can taste and smell. It must be like walking into the swimming baths and smelling the chlorine to them imo.

TF_GavinI have to say I’ve used tap water many a time and I don’t think it does any harm! Anything in the water will have evapourated before the bait see’s the water if done the night before.

TF_unlucky19i read a quote or statement think it was keith arthur who said tap water if left out for 24 hours or so loses the chemical detected by fish
i think it was something like that. -

DrKennyParticipantAs the list of chemicals added to tap water either directly or indirectly (old pipes etc) is long and quite scary I pump pellets when I get to my peg with lake water, for inert Gbait I use rain water. No idea if it makes a difference.
Not all the chemicals want to be gasses so leaving water to stand removes very few of them, only a complicated filtration system can remove them all. Chlorine will evaporate from tap water overnight though. Leave a glass of water out and see the bubbles on the side in the morning.
The rate of evaporation depends on many factors; temp, circulation, surface area exposed to ‘clean’ air etc. If you pump expanders or mix Gbait with tap water then seal in a plastic bag and stick in the fridge there wont be much evaporation, probably none, and any that does occur will stay in the bag so an equilibrium will be reached where there is still some Cl in the bait.
If no rain water available you could bring tap water to boil first as this should shake off any remaining Cl and other gasses very quickly. -

TF_inky fingerI don’t think tap water is a problem however i wouldn’t use a atomiser that has had kitchen type cleaner in it to dampen down the groundbait during the day.I was lazy and thought a good clean out and long drying time would be ok it wasn’t and caught nothing over my lemon sented groundbait !… cheapskate.

TF_JabjabOn our way to a world champs one year and Alan Scotthorne kept the bloodworm in bottled water that he’d bought from the shops. He thought that tap water affected the worm.
Personally, I think it’s more of a confidence thing and you should do what you feel comfortable with.

TF_thedoghave always used boiling water for my groundbait mixes because the molasses i add wont disolve in cold water. Lately ive been soaking expanders the night before in boiling water then leaving them in the fridge in a sealed tub after draining off the excess. lake water is probably better but im sure she would notice the difference in her cup of tea
