TF_Andy LParticipantHi all I’m tying some lasso hair rigs for the method feeder and pellet waggler ready for my trip to twin oaks and acorn at whiteacres as I havnt been fishing for a while due to work commitments I’m getting all flustered setting the length of the loop from the hook how long should I make it and do I need to make different length for different size pellets what do you all do cheers

TF_Waveney OneYou need different sized lasso’s for different sized pellets. You also need a length of hair in order to open the loop up to insert a new pellet when necessary.
The way I make them up is as follows. Tie a grinner knot to form the lasso and insert a pellet and tighten the lasso. I then tie that to the hook using the knotless knot. I leave a small length of the hair between the bend of the hook and the pellet. It can pay to vary the distance but generally I leave not much more than the equivalent of 2 pellet diameters, normally one. When fishing for skimmers I tend to have the pellet almost touching the bend of the hook.
I normally use a bench fly vice to hold the hook which means it is very easy to get the length of the hair as I want it.

TF_NathanWatsonI’m impressed, training a fly to hold a hook!

TF_scarfDon’t give up the day job Nathan.

NezDo your lasso, put a pellet in it and proceed to tie a knotless knot. For an 8mm pellet you want an 8mm gap between the pellet and the bend of the hook, 6mm for 6mm etc, etc.
Set the gap and finish the knot.
Personally i would not bother wit a lasso cos your burying the bait anyway. Just use a band.

TF_Waveney OneI would have thought that using a stocking garter was very gay ~naughty ~naughty
Us men, like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, always use the lasso ~clap ~clap

As for you Nathan, I don’t expect that you ever tie rigs but borrow them (never to be returned) from those pegs around you!
Anyway it was a very special gozzer fly that I trained.

TF_NathanWatsonNo, I tie them myself, on the bank, with my fingers! Would NEVER use 1 that ANYONE else had tied!

TF_Smedi find that when i put pellets in the lasso and tie a few my hands get oily from the pellets and when i have a butty it tastes funny 🙁
best way to do it is get a nozzle of a silicone tube, mark 2 lines near the end one for 8mm pellets one for 6mm pellets, then after tying the grinner knot tighten it down to the end of the nozzle and slide it up to the required line, after that thread the line through the back of the hook and i have the knot in line with the bottom of the hook and then knotless knot, this gives plenty of room to open up the lasso for another pellet, and seems to be just about right length, if you think you need a longer length u can put a 6mm pellet in the 8mm hooklengths, or a ultra short one put a 8mm pellet in a 6mm hooklength, hope this makes sense!
oh and my buttys taste allright while im tying em….
oh and u can use a silicone nozzle to open up the lasso while fishing, less fiddly than them bandy clit tickler things! lol -

errr NO! throught the back of the eye, whip down the shank, then back through the back of the eye!
knotless knot……. -

TF_NathanWatsonIt would come apart! Has to be through opposite sides in my experience anyway!?
-
03/06/2011 at 3:29 pm #142788
TF_Smedits impossible for it to come apart!
ive allways done it through the back of the hook to keep the hair at the back
and back through the back of the hook to give it the aggresive angle… -

and back through the back of the hook to give it the aggresive angle…It depends upon which end of the line is going through the eye. If you have already tied the lasoo then the end which will eventually be attached to the feeder or the mainline will go through as Smed says.
If you are tying the lasoo in the hair after the line has gone through the eye then Nathan is right as far as I can see and as I understand it.
