TF_GavinI’d imagine that as both crucians and carp have long lifespans it would be considerably more than 4 years?

TF_Nigel.They have only been around since 2000. The biggest reported in the county is 9lb, and we will soon hear of a double the way there growing!
No one knows the life span, Carp can live to 100, the oldest Koi was 226, and the oldest goldfish was 45, so a being cross between the two, its anyones guess as to there life span.

TF_stevie bI know somebody who has a 20+ year old Goldfish!
His kids won at a fair when they were nippers! They have long since moved out but the goldfish stayed behind!

TF_Nigel.Ha ha, why thankyou.
You can count the rings on a scale of a fish the same way you count the rings on a tree to see how old it is!

TF_JohnHOur club was one of the earliest to start stocking carp. We re landscaped our lakes in 1974 and stocked with mirror and common carp. There were no other fish stocked. These fish are still in there with some now 20lb plus. Obviously we lose a few, particularly after spawning and over winter.
We are not sure if they have ever sucessfully spawned as we have never caught small carp.
The old fish still fight like no others I have come across. -

As I am sure you know Nigel, only when they are growing. The rings are formed when they do not feed and grow much in the winter, like a tree. Once they reach their optimum size and stop growing no more rings, so that koi would not have shown 226 rings.

AnonymousIm led to believe that the F1s life expectancy is 8-12 years.
I remember Brookside getting its 1st stocks of F1s in about 2002. That makes some of those original fish a least 10 years old based on them being a year old when they where first stocked.
Not sure if any of those first F1s to be stocked in Brookside are still alive but there are some F1s that are over 5lb. So, im guessing that they are the original F1s but there are not many of those larger fish.
