TF_Sharp HookThe MAP hooklength box is a great piece of kit. It is bigger that the Preston boxes but it’s alot more versatile.
I now only carry one long hooklength box. I will be interested in the new Preston method hook length box when it comes out though.

TF_sayres123I got one find it fiddly any annoying, pins are too close together and pushing line through all the foam annoys the Hell out of me.

TF_macky1TBH i got one other week
i tried it for 2 sessions and have now gone back to my preston boxes.
any hooklengths less then 12″ (distance from the 2 pegs) are not kept under tension and i found they fall off in transit mixin up all ur neatly tied hooklengths.
Also not water tight, rained heavy last bank hol and water got in and made all the hooks damp and the inside soggy (the bit u right on)great idea but needs more thought i think

TF_HatManAgree with Macky about the water problem, the white backing quickly absorbs any water that gets in the box. Also not happy with build quality, one of the strips of pegs on mine wasn’t glued at one end + one of the sliders on the measuring ruler thingy doesn’t stay put.
Glad to replace 4 Preston boxes all the same.

whittychris, the sliders on the measuring scale screw down & I found the best way to get the hooklengths through the foam under tension was to put the hook on the pin, then put a dart (other pointed objects are available)through the loop, pull tight & push through the foam slots.

TF_geepsterParticipantGood feedback fellas I think Mike Robinson is on a well earned break at the moment but I’m sure he’ll take it on board if he can.

TF_James_HI completely agree with Macky1 and what he said.
They look brilliant, I thought I’d do away with the 4 Preston retainers I needed, so I wasted 3hrs of my life one lonely evening transferring all my hook lengths over to the Map box. When I finished it looked great. The only criticisms I had at this point was the plastic hook holder pin things are too close together, I found it best using every other pin, and the measuring pin kept falling off so I blue tacked it on – but apparently it can be screwed down to fix it in place???
Anyhow; 2months down the line and I’ve now gone back to the Preston retainers again. As stated above, I also found when you try to take out one hook length, another 2 or 3 come out with it, or even work their way loose. They appearance & idea is brilliant, but they’re just too fiddly & I can’t be doing with hook lengths working loose and then not knowing what line is it when you find one loose inside.

AnonymousIn one word “rubbish” I switched over the MAP box for all my hooklenghts at first I thought it was superb, however after a weeks festival at white acres being lugged about for a week all my short hooklengts were all over the place, a right mess. I’ve know gone back to the Preston ones and the MAP one will be paying a visit to the bin !!

TF_wildingukwish I’d read this thread before buying one. Got to admit it was awfully fiddly getting all the hook lengths in, only put my natural water hooks in there mind you and not back on the rivers yet, so not had chance to use it in anger.
If it’s as bad as you lot say though, will have to get a nathans one as they look the business.
Lookin forward to the new method box from preston though, that will replace 4 or 5 smaller preston boxes for me.

TF_RhinoSame problems. Gone back to buffy box and prestons, can’t believe they gave this a serious trial and didn’t have same issues, shame some good ideas, a similar model based on moveable pins with the pins further apart to facilitate larger hooks would b great.
