Fished it in August. Match was won with maggot, mainly silvers and the odd Fantail.I came third and targeted the Tench and Fantails with paste. I fed small micro-pellets and corn.

So Paul what were the weights? I refuse to go there anymore as it seems so very peggy and few fish seem to show. Allegedly a few years back a large percentage of the crucians it was renowned for were taken out, and I don’t think they have recovered from it.

Pete,top weight was 24 pound. I had 22 pound. Fished the venue twice this year with a combined weight of 50 pound. The venue still contains Crucian carp and these carp are a good size. The majority of the best weights are made up with Tench and Fantails. The best pegs are on the lawn bank. Great venue and is very popular with our club.

Sounds as though it may be recovering but those weights are not what it used to be capable of. I remember weights of 30 to 40lb of crucians and that was pre pellet, when corn was king.

Perhaps there should be some silver match leagues run on it, but I doubt it would sustain even weights from all around the lake or am I wrong?

Hi rick,
Most matces on the lake are now won with around 25 – 35lb which is usually fantails and tench and crucians!
BUT I know a few good silver fish anglers that have gone for the roach and done similar weights of them on the maggot !!
Pauls comment of the lawn bank being the best is not usually the case – it has been for this season but the right angler on either pegs 1,3 6 or 12or 13 (I think) on the car park side should be there or thereabouts!
There are still some proper mirrors in there but peg 12 or 13(the end peg) is the only peg I would truly sit it out for one as not many are hooked and when they are most are lost!
As for baits pellet and paste works for the fantails and tench as does corn !
Maggots will catch plenty of fish too.
I always fish a line with worm and caster but abandon it if the tiny perch move in!

Good angler on end peg 13(roadside)normally wins most matches,

Fish to your left under the tree and you will catch tench,crucians,fantails and maybe hook a wild carp..Ive won matches fishing paste close in on most pegs..4-6mm Expander over 2mms will catch the better fish,ive tried worm for the tench but get plagued by the small fish..Bread punch is another favoured bait as well…

Peg 3 used to be a flyer but im not sure if that big tree is still overhanging…

Personally i wouldnt want a draw on the lawns as theres not much coverage just open water, theres a couple of pegs in between the trees that produce…

30lb will be a good weight although pleasure weights exceed 60lb+
