Just came across this gem from 1962. Now I thought that the Mitchell 440a Match was developed for the UK market and had no idea that there was a 330 in America a full decade before this and that the Abu 500 series closed face reels were already on sale by this time too it just goes to show how superb these reels were in the day,
I still have occasional use of 500’s although the Mitchell’s were retired when I got onto the Daiwa 1657DM’s in the mid ’80’s as the line picked up off the finger eliminating that fish threatening ‘bump’ that you always had with closing the bail on the 440’s.
Well worth a look if you were fishing in the 1970’s and ’80’s.
