TF_BriggsyParticipantHey chaps, I’m in the Market for a new box to replace my tired old maver that’s served me well for a good few years. I don’t want to spend stupid money that some companies think that they can charge, so I’d appreciate some feedback on the good and bad on different models. I’ve been looking at the maver series 5 at £250, it seems a decent box for the money but someone said they fall to bits. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks.

TF_toplightsI bl@@dy hope not,I’v just bought a series 5,it seems to be built like a brick outhouse,im heavy and can stand on the footplate and its as solid as a rock. When i’m sitting on it i can still open the cross drawer on it.I’v heard you cant do that on a Rive that nowdays will cost you the thick end of £2000.Time will tell though,i particularly like the new type catches on the Maverbox.Only problem i have with it is, you wont carry it far its heavy, but then it comes with a trolly. Still fitting it out with linings in the tin drawers,so havent used it on the bank yet.

TF_scarfAnother vote for the Fox MSB Euro 1. I was pointed to it, on offer at Leigh Angling, by pp (thanks Ron).
It’s solid and seems very well made without being the size of an oil rig. I particularly like the ability to adjust the seat height separately from the footplate (I couldn’t on my Tournament pro box).
It doesn’t hold as many rigs as the Daiwa – a good thing; I have to lift my fat arse to open the underseat drawer and I haven’t worked out how to fit it on my Preston shuttle but these are minor teething problems. It’s a lovely box and I’m well happy with it.
As a bonus Climax are selling off loads of Fox branded accessories such as spare winder and side trays at knockdown prices to make way for the rebranded Matrix stuff.
It’s well worth a look. -

Seconded. Can’t believe they are knocking these out so cheap just because they want to rebrand everything as Matrix. The best box I’ve ever owned by a country mile and a lot smaller footprint than my previous Milo Tardis, easy peasy getting it in and out of a hatchback. Build quality is fantastic like Piperpilot says and it won’t leak when it rains like and the drawers don’t break like some top of the range boxes.
It makes me laugh when you see posts ‘what car should I buy to fit my Rive……’

TF_toplightsI take your point about the size and weight of some of these seatboxes.I bought the MXi series 5 because (being a bit of a heavyweight)i could stand up on the footplate without it moving, but it is heavy and for me, unuseable without the trolly. As far as i can tell by comments on the various sites and my own observations as an engineer, the consepts of the two boxes(Maver/Rive) are very similar.New type catches on the Maver units, and the fact i could still open the drawer under the seat without lifting a bum cheak was another bonus,It also swung the decision for me.I my self, could not justify buying a Rive on price diferance alone. On the subject of cars,it goes in the V70 quite easily. :p 😀 😀

TF_BriggsyParticipantThanks to all for your feedback, the comment about the maver 5 box was just a mates opinion. I’ll have a mosey on down to climax and have a look at the fox. Once again thanks lads. 🙂 🙂
