TF_chubby chubberParticipantyou wont burn a cordless drill out mate the battery will die first i just use a 14v and its fine use it when we got to holland it does enough for six of us to ball in and fish through the feeder and thats fine so doubt your going to do more g-bait than that in one go so i think you will be fine mate the best advice is not to do too much in one go if you get my drift id say a maximum of 1/3 of a sensas bucket at a time then you know it will be done properly

TF_dunnoBuy a second hand 18v De Walt on fleabay.
Buy cheap and buy twice, thrice etc.
Tried them all from bosch, black and decker, homebase, b&q etc. They all burn out or you have to divide your mix.
Since I bought the DeWalt two years ago I have had no problems and I can mix 17 litres in a jiffy.

TF_rocketFeedercan advise against the Wickes own 15.6 drill. Anything more than 2kilo and it can’t handle it, waste of money.

TF_andy cranes mateParticipantWhat mixes do you mix on the bank and why don’t you do it the night before?

TF_DodgeWe used an 18v Bosh last weekend whilst competing in the Sensas Challenge Final on the River Somme in Abbeville France . 17 litres (cips rules) done in no time ! 😀 😎

TF_squattMakita 24v 3.2ah batteries. It will bust a hole in the bucket if you’re nor careful lol. Will easily knock up a 7kg(dry) mix in Holland or France. The batteries recharge as quick as chips too.

TF_Irk the puristsAndy Cranes Mate…
Know what you are saying, most me gear is done at home with a normal drill but potential trips to Ken for festivals requires a cordless thingy….
Rog, was it really powerful enough? would it do for year on year or did it just suffice as a one off? Impressive result for the team on the Somme!!
Thanks to all for contributions to date, much to think about……

TF_MarcRodgerI have had a Milwaukee 14.4v for over 2 years now, and it’s still going strong.

Steve , the mix we used was heavy with leam added as the Somme was 8 – 10 foot deep and pushing through (also tidal) the drill we used coped easily mate. Keeping the batteries charged on whatever drill you use is priority 😉
Another perch or two would have seen us in a much higher position but it was tough for all the 260 teams ………….. the lads are made up beating 180 of the top european teams at our first attempt of fishing abroad 🙂 -

TF_rik_jWe’ve got a mortar mixer drill and a power generator for when the whole team are mixing their groundbait. When we fish in Germany we can mix 5 x (6 kg dry + 3 kg leem) in less than 30 minutes.
The mortar mixer drill is much, much stronger than the normal drills, it’s the buckets you should worry about 😮

TF_Irk the puristsThanks to all for responses, it was Dave’s Makita at a ton that started me thinking….. It’s just that it will primarily be used for fishing as me and DIY just don’t mix!!
😮Seems a bit of a travesty to use quality kit so inappropriately but hey ho….

TF_AprilriverParticipantIts not so much the voltage of the drill, its the amp hour rating of the battery that give you the legs.

AnonymousI bought a cheap £9.95 Tesco 9.6v cordless and it was crap, didn’t have the power or speed to mix groundbait.
I then bought the 18v Milo and it was a bit better for mixes under 2 kilo.
I now have a Makita 18v that I bought on offer from B&Q last Christmas and it puts all to shame. I put my milo whisks on it. The 2 gear ratio makes a big difference.

TF_Cutnutsteer clear of any drills using NiCad batteries you will be disappointed. Lithium ion batteries are the way to go. Make sure you get two batteries and that the charger is capable of charging them in as short a time as possible.
Makes that will do the job are: Dewalt, Makita, Mac Allister.
