Although the weather seemed ideal (warm, sunny and with a breeze blowing straight into the “Pump” bank), once again the carp generally failed to co-operate and the bulk of the fish caught by most anglers were bream. The exceptions were the top two who both managed to catch carp late in the match on pole and pellet.
Once again it was Chris “Oggy” Horsley who led the way to win with 119-01 of carp. Drawn on peg 41, Oggy struggled for most of the match but the carp moved onto this pole swim in the final hour when he caught quickly on banded pellet.
Shaun Weed on end peg 37 also struggled until the final hour when the carp also moved onto his pole line, and once again it was banded pellet that did the damage lifting him to second place with 54-01.
On peg 45, Oliver Sleath fished a good match catching the off bream throughout the day before the carp moved into his margin swim when he added five fish for 33-08 to total 43-05 for third place.
Mick Chapman filled fourth place from peg 47 with 26-06 consisting of two early carp on bomb and pellet followed by 15 pounds of skimmers on the method feeder fished short, with Martin Hincks (peg 39) taking fifth with 21-09 and Mark Millock (peg 43) in sixth with 19-04.
The Thursday match scheduled for Warren on 5 August has been cancelled (lack of interest). Next week’s match (11 August) is on “the Deeps” (early pegs).
