Another had overnight frost followed by a beautiful sunny day saw the Thursday Opens return to the small Phase Two lakes, and there were some excellent weights and everyone caught fish.
Last year’s in form Crater filled the top two places, Andy Searle winning overall with 86-11 from peg 5, Simon Skelton (opposite bank with an island between them) fishing peg 10, filling second spot with 54-08. Both caught by “dobbing” bread close to the islands, and both had mainly big carp as well as some “stockies”.
The next four weights all came from Reptile, with Alby Beehl leading the pack and winning the lake with 52-12 from peg 4, the bulk of his fish falling to corn on the bomb cast towards the end of the island. Keith Hudson (peg 4) had 37-01 on pole and corn to take lake second, followed by Mark Robinson (34-02 from peg 13) and Bob Greenbury (28-10 from peg 9).
Although Snake had the lowest weights, the results were quite close with everyone catching “double figures” weight. Gaz Wood had several quality carp in his lake winning 25-02 from peg 10, mainly on pole but a couple on bomb and corn, John Adamson taking lake second with 19-01 of small fish (carp, bream, roach, hybrids and gudgeon) on pole and pellet.
Next week’s match is on the Phase Three lakes, Thames, Inner and Outer Avon and Derwent.
