Report:
In the very hot and sticky conditions, the fish in Lake Two appeared to be more interested in sunbathing than feeding, with fish showing just under the surface throughout the day. Sport, as a result, was hard, and this was reflected in the weights with some anglers not bothering to weigh in.
Jake Hemmings, fishing his first Nisa Open this year, drew peg A21. He began by targeting the carp near the surface with a pellet waggler and ended up catching fish from the edge on the pole for a total weight of 110-11 to win.
On peg B21, Aaron Braithwaite also stated on the pellet waggler, and despite trying to catch on pole both short and long, found that the pellet waggler was the only method that worked and his 12 carp caught like that totalled 94-11 for second place.
Match organiser Shaun Weed on peg B19 fished the pole shallow all day, and accumulated a total of 67-04 to take third place, just ahead of Tony Rathmill on peg A8, who narrowly missed out with 66-01.
Unfortunately, there are no catch photos this week. My thanks to Shaun Weed for running the event in my absence, and to Rob Lowe, our excellent scales operative, for his quick and efficient weighing.
NB. Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook “Nisa – midweek open matches” to book a place).
