Report:
THE warm day for the time of the year resulted in a good turn-out so to maximise sport for all it was decided to split the match between the Deeps and the Pump banks, although the latter had to endure the the very strong wind blowing straight at them, the former having it “side on” from right to left.
Chris “Oggy” Horsley on the Pump band peg 43 took full advantage of the extra space offered when the angler next to him packed up because of the wind. By feeding the margin with corn, Oggy caught decent carp in the latter stages of the match to record a weight of 77-00 for the win, 17 lbs of silvers and 60 lbs carp (which would have been at least 10 lb more as he exceeded the 60 lb limit on his carp net).
Downwind end peg on the Deeps, 27, Rob Lowe was struggling to catch due to the incessant side wind, but just after 2:15 pm the wind eased a fraction enabling him to present his worm bait correctly. From then until the match ended he caught skimmer bream and carp steadily to amass 63-11 to take second place.
On Deeps peg 21, Mick Bull caught the off skimmer and a carp on method feeder during the first four hours before he was able to control his tackle in the wind on pole fished top two and three. He ended with 28-02 of skimmer bream and three carp for 31-11 for his 59-13 total and third place.
Steve Richards on Pump peg 45 was fourth with 56-11, Gary Cook (Deeps 17) taking fifth with a pole caught 49-04 made up of 11-10 of silvers and three carp which tipped the scales at 37-10. Martin Hincks (Deeps 25) had all of his 49-03 (13-14 of silvers and three carp weighing 35-05) on the feeder.
Grant Merritt (peg 19) was seventh with 47-10, Richard Neale (peg 15)eighth with 36-06, Michael Dalzeil (peg 49) ninth with 35-06, James Lewis (peg 47) taking tenth spot with 27-08.
