~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap Have just finished watching “Imagine” on BBC1 profiling the life of Ray Davies the songwriter and lead singer of the great 60`s band…The Kinks.
They were so very far ahead of their time, and along with the Beatles,Stones and the Who were every teenagers idols. What truly great times they were for our generation. The Kinks music was unique, and Ray Davies was an exceptional writer and artist.
His many songs have become classics and will live on forever. If only we could bring back those days when our green and pleasant land was a place to be proud of.
        “Lola”….”Waterloo Sunset”….”Taxman taken all my dough” ……To sing just a few…..Genius or what?~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap

Will have to check it out on Iplayer as I missed it. First single I bought back in the early 60s when I was only 8, “you really got me”.
As you say Mick they were well ahead of their time, the music in fact still stands up today.
Definate trail blazers and rightly regarded as one of the best.

I remember Ray Davies and Daman Albarn doing Waterloo Sunset on Jools Holland’s New Years Hoot show a few years ago. I love the Kinks original version and there take on it was superb. Lyrically, the Kinks are up there for me.

billy j krammer. bloody hell mick thats a long time ago. he was on at the odeon the week before the beatles first show.1964 i think mick. we had loads of tallent shows around the north west in them days. lots of scouse groups and the one i remember most was in manc which the SMALL FACES won. i thought they were rubbish at the time ~sick how wrong i was. i went to my first live show at adswood school in stockport playing was billy fury backed up by a new group called the merseybeats i think. cost me five bob (25p) to get in that was 2 weeks pocket money or no park drive for a fortnight unless the old man was stupid enough to leave his lying about.

What a great thread. I well remember all of the groups mentioned and realise in retrospect what a great era for pop music were the sixties and seventies. My particular favourits song is Days by that fabulous writer Ray Davies lead singer and song-writer of the Kinks. Thanks again lads for jolting my memories of some great times.

My brother, who as you know was a singer in the 60`s(Top 10 best…but other songs in the 20`s)had a birthday party at our house in Walton(Marquees in the garden). Most of the bands were there.Adam faith was s***ing Marianne at the time, and all hell let loose later in the evening when he caught her in the garden with one of the Three Pennies(Juliet fame).
I remember the night so well cause a mate of mine who stayed over saw Lulu`s ginger m**** when she was taking a shower.
