After buying a new rod bag, i found an old tube in the garage i forgot i even had.

In it is a Daiwa Whisker float rod, 3pc, 13/14ft, with the eyes attached with red weaving.

Its a rod i forgot i even had and havent used for probably 9 years.

It was a hand me down which i imagine was probably made/bought in the 80s or early 90s.

If anyone can tell me more about this rod, what its uses are etc it would be a great help.

Red whipping – does the blank have a cross weave? It could be a Whisker Tommy Pickering, sold new for £150 ish, nice rods.

The blank is like a gun metal grey colour, ill have a look for the weave later and post a pic.

              Ok, just had a look.

Not all the guides are woven red, some are brown with the odd one red and one thats been repaired with black.

              Heres the photos anyway.

Jonni: Looking at the picture I would suggest that it isn’t a repaired eye but one put between the first eye and the reel seat to keep the line away from the blank when trotting to stop the line sticking and ruining presentation.

There is bound to be someone who used one of these. I was into Bruce and Walker XLT’s around this time before graduating to Normarks. They look early 1980’s to me.

I still have a Daiwa Harrier Whisker (Kevlar?) from the mid-eighties – a cracking rod!
