TF_Gary the gudgeonHow can it be that these lovely,law-abiding upright citizens who do no harm to anyone, pay their taxes and contribute so much to their local community are to be ejected from their chosen place of residence.
SHAMEFUL -

TF_DodgeThe leader of Basildon council has told BBC News he has a £17 million budget to clear the site …….

TF_GavinSo what do you do, leave them there? It’s an illegal site, they broke the law!
If you leave them there you set a president for anyone to just build wherever they want without permission. You can’t have a rule for one and not for others.
The only thing that’s been done wrong is it’s taken far too long to do it!

TF_toplightsI think its a shame these harmless trustfull people are treated in this manner.Just because they have differant rules and laws than us.God bless the people who helped them,i’m shure they will be pleased when they move in on the empty plot next door.

TF_Gary the gudgeonThese lovely people have no sense of direction or ability to find their way home as on many occasions I have found them wandering around my back garden, when approached by me they offer apoligies and suggest that they could clear stuff away as a thank you for my showing them where they should go.

£17million budget?.
Let the police go in waving a few bars of soap. See how quickly they move then.

TF_toplightsShame on the lot of you, they are law abiding acording to their laws. You just dont understand, they live off the land.It dosent matter whos it is.Property must be shared its free to all.As long as its not theirs(which most of it isen’t).

TF_SwimfeederWhilst I offer my whole hearted support to Basildon Council for upholding the law of the land, I am left asking why these issues are allowed to occur in the first place? why does it take so long to enforce planning laws that apply to us all? where does the money to buy land and then illegally build on it come from? why does her Majesty’s tax men not take on the task of an extensive investigation into travellers? indeed do they pay income tax or VAT for their businesses?
I believe the “problem” has only been moved on elsewhere, and not dealt with for all time.

TF_caster robParticipant“where does the money to buy land and then illegally build on it come from?”
I understand that the occupiers rented the land from the owner in Ireland (who is thought to be related to some of them) and do not own it themselves.
” why does her Majesty’s tax men not take on the task of an extensive investigation into travellers?”
Notice that it was only the women who ever seemed to address the media? Their menfolk seemed to prefer to remain anonymous, for some reason.
All is not lost:
“more reporters than protestors“
Just wait until next years Olympics.
There’ll be more BBC staff enjoying the jamboree than there’ll be athletes competing.

Yes, I noticed they didn’t regale him with the same fawning symapthy that they heaped upon Queen Mandelson and his darling Brazilian adonis.
Very strange, bearing in mind their famous lack of bias.

TF_JohnHCould have saved 17m very easily, as Swimfeeder has said, send the tax people in and you wont see the travellers for dust.
Heard the Beatles old song the taxman on classic rock last night, great line by Lennon,”the more you pay the more they want”
As the travellers dont pay anything they get left alone, sort of sums things up really.
I pity the poor buggers they are going move onto next. -
