Scenario; 2 miles up the road from my caravan is a nice little pub I like to frequent, Idont drink and drive, but how does the law lie with riding a push bike whilst over the limit, Ive heard mixed opinions with alot of people claiming you can loose your car licence ? And if you can loose your licence what happens to people who dont have a car licence, afterall you dont need a car licence to ride a bike ?

You would not be done for drinking and driving but you could be done for drinking whilst in charge. Obviously you will not loose your licence but you would face a fine. Dont forget that if you are drunk you could fall in front of a car driver who, whilst he had not been drinking, could easliy injure you seriously in not worse. He would have to live with it for the rest of his life.

Section 30 Road Traffic Act 1988 says: “It is an offence for a person to ride a cycle on a road or other public place when unfit to ride through drink or drugs” – that is to say – is under the influence of a drink or a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the cycle

Also cycling dangerously (i.e. under the influence) is punishable with a fine of up to £2500!!!!

You cannot get endorsements on your UK driving licence for a ‘drink cycling’ offence.

I tried drink driving on a push bike once, but kept spilling my pint.

My thinking on it is you would lose the rightto process a driving licence for a fixed period .so if you had a car also or if you don’t your not allowed a license for a ban period. think its, treat same as a car.your responsible for a vehicle on a highway.
                  maybe wrong like

It won’t affect your car licence at all – you don’t need it drive a bike and it’s a totally separate offence. Most likely if your caught to get a £60-£80 fixed penalty notice (know people that have had them!)

Most worryingly, you’re liable to do yourself an injury and on a quiet road at night it may be a while before your found should you knock yourself out. Walk it, shouldn’t take long to do two miles, or get a taxi!

Cheers all, its 30 min walk I did it numerous times last season, just wondered where the law stood if I took my push bike its very rural and you hardly ever see a car walking home at midnight.
