MOLANDS Molands was fishing very poor this week in matches with 20 – 30lb framing and anglers struggling on certain areas. The carp are still trying to spawn and this is affecting sport. There was a 21½lb mirror caught and this is the biggest from Molands in sometime and it fell to meat ledgered to the island on peg 39. Chopped worm and caster is the best approach for mixed nets at the moment, fishing it long or just down the near shelf at 4 – 6 metres. Best pegs are 2, 19 – 21, 31, 44 – 46 and 52 – 58.
GEARYS The skimmers have switched on and are making up catches to over 50lb with pole fished paste or pellet accounting for fish between 1lb and 2½lb. The carp were going well early in the week with fish to 17lb being caught on straight lead and pellet or method feeder with meat or pellet on the hook. The high bank from 7 – 13 and the far side on 31 – 34 are the best areas for skimmers with the carp showing better on pegs
18 – 24.LITTLE GEARYS Anglers are enjoying plenty of bites on pole fished pellet, paste or caster with F1’s from 12oz to 2lb and skimmers around the same stamp. The far bank is the best area producing the biggest weights and pegs 7 – 12 in best form although decent sport has been had on all areas.
GRATUITIES Probably the pick of the pools at the moment with lots of carp in the 1½lb – 3lb bracket and tench from 1lb – 3lb being caught. The top tactics are pole and pellet fished at 11 metres or a small method fished right up to the island with banded pellet or dead red maggots. Top pegs are 1 – 4, 8 – 11 and 15 – 16.
ANNIVERSARIES Anniversaries has been very popular this week as anglers seek shelter from the high winds and most have enjoyed good sport. Mixed nets of carp, tench, skimmers and crucians being caught on float fished corn or pellet. There were reports of a 25½ lb ghost carp from peg 1 which if confirmed, will be the biggest from the fishery for a number of years.
