TF_drawbag1967I’m after one that will really crunch Carp in from 6-10lb, I currently use a Mach 3XT which is fine for fish up to 4lb but does not really fill you with confidence with fish bigger than that. What are the new Browning rods like anyone got one.

TF_Stevie HAgree with Nathan on this….I use the original Shakey Mach 3 for fish up to and over 10lb. Yes the blank is slim, but christ its got some power for such a slim blank.
Have even had fish up over 20lb here in Belgium on it and it has never let me down.

TF_Mike HerringtonI also have a shaky mach 3 xt 11ft and used it at viaduct last year and it has some right power, was using .19 and .21 hooklengths for fish to 17lb.

TF_FordyYou also can’t go wrong with the Drennan pellet wag rods. Think they are around #60 with a padded rod sleeve.
I’ve got two and have had doubles with them. I’ve also used them for dace and chub trotting on the ‘pin. Crisp on the strike, soft for playing fish with plenty of power when it’s needed.
Dunno how they do it for the money when some other rods cost so much more.

TF_Dave PelletBecause a big part of Drennan’s phylosophy is to offer anglers quality gear at affordable prices
they could quite easily have stuck a £100+ pricetag on many of their Series 7 range and still sold loads but choose not to, preferring to offer excellent gear at reasonable prices

TF_drawbag1967I agree it can handle big carp, I’ve had them up to 18lb, but I just don’t feel confident crunching the bigger fish in on one. I’m not trying to slag the rod off because for the money it’s a brilliant piece of kit.

TF_andykoiParticipantshakey mach 3 will handle them no problem,
thats what i used to use at gold valley. If not another vote for the drennan. -

TF_dave brittainDrawbag I’ve used the Mach 3 Micros since they came out and have had weights up to 293lbs in matches at Stafford Moor and Viaduct without any problems.
If you use want something with a little more power look at the 12ft Mach 3 PW.
If you need more power than that chances are you’ll end up ripping the hook out of the fishes mouths as there is a very fine line in between having the right amount of power to use with balanced tackle which allows perfect presentation.
I don’t use main lines heavier than 4 lbs combined with 0.20 hook length and I’ confident in getting almost anything out with this set up.

AnonymousI have to agree with Dave. You need to be asking yourselves what strength of line you intend using before you get a more powerful rod. 4lb Maxima reel line to a 0.20 hook length is very powerful tackle but balanced to the average pellet waggler rods. If you feel that you need a more powerful rod. Then im suggesting that you need to look at your technique for playing big fish unless your in a hit and hold situation. Much better to take your time and play your fish correctly so you land almost every fish. If you add extra power to you tackle. You will lose many more of your bonus fish that could have been in the landing net a few minutes later though better technique and a little patience! Remember that the most difficult part of fishing is getting the fish on the hook. Silly to lose any fish though rushing the job of playing the fish carefully on balanced tackle until its in your net!

TF_Tim_DBack to the original question.. The Browning Champions Choice PW rod is awesome.

TF_drawbag1967True Blue, I agree it could be down to technique, but at the weekend use a hook, float, line, bait etc that you don’t fully have confidence in and see how well you get on.
Cheers Tim
