In the above article Pemb mentions the use of an inline olivette to be used as a back lead, he says that its sliding. I might be missing some thing here, but if its sliding would it not just rest on the lead/float stop on the cast and stay there,I see the point of getting your main line down on the deck to cut down the number of liners.Would a sliding olivette move far enough away from the bomb to make any significant difference. Please don’t think this is a criticism of the article, its just the venue I’m fishing at the moment on some pegs you get liners and get a few fish early on and then nothing for ages could the fish spook through contact with the main line. Opinions would be appreciated.

it should act like a light version of a flying backlead. As you cast out, the momentum is taken by the heaviest item (i.e. the lead or feeder) and the olivette will move up the line and away from the lead/feeder.

M of K I can see what your saying, having looked closely at Pemb’s rig it looks like he’s removed the silicone from inside the olivette which would enable it to run more freely.
            Cheers

I do a lot of proper carp fishing and an olivete aint going to work properly. It needs to have a flat surface that catches the air as you cast so that its forced up the line as it flies out. Should buy the proper leads or just use a big fixed splitshot pinched on the line.

It is sliding, but prob fixed at whatever length from rig he wants with a plug or small shot!!

                  Hi Guys,
I find the olivette works a treat, you’ve just got to thread it on your line the “”wrong” way. Fat end nearer the rod tip. The harder you cast the further it flys up the line.

Surely by putting a shot up the line it would make it a fixed rig. Pemb would it work over a short distance say 20 metres using a lighter bomb would you have to use a lighter olivette to compensate.
