pencil float eye’s

With pencil floats which type of eye’s spring or normal are the best or is there no differance with regards to 0.10/0.12/and 0.14 main line?

Personally I would say normal. I think some handmade have line whipped around the eye to strengthen it.

I prefer the normal eye type, I use Malmans and they have a small whipping round the float to strengthen the eye.

never had a problem with the spring eyes on ackoos pencil floats but having said that I normally use them in summer with .16 line, when fish are feeding I am not sure a side eye makes much difference, in winter I would probably go with a side eye but only on the floats that are made from hi density foam, they stay in much better than in balsa

you should always fish a side eye i think personally wit any float as u can lay the rig in an hold it tight when fishing on the drop etc an it lets your backshot work correctly making presentation better all round. i only use spring eyes purely for strength i.e edge fishing. malham pencils have a whipped side eye and are prob perfect for what you mentioned an there very strong yet they still allow the float to work how u want it too.

i think a spring eye adds stregth to the float and i find them perfectly acceptable if you have a longer tip in your float.The newer type of spring eyes are far superior as well . Lets stop being to technical.

Normal eyes on the body all day long spring eyes thumbs down !
