        Pole for fishing Rivers

I looking to spend sub 1K. The rivers I fish are Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour possibly venturing out on the Thames this coming season. I will be targeting the silver fish, but must be able to cope with the rogue Chub. Most of the Poles around this price range seemed to be aimed at Carp, I suppose that’s were the market is nowadays. I don’t want one that comes with a load of power kits that I wont use.I have never owned a pole before and find it all a bit of a mine field. Any advice I would welcome Cheers

are you looking for top4s and top5s

Could get you a maver 501 with a few top5s for well under a grand
Their European Packages are made for that kind of thing, but they only come at 13m
You could pick up an extension for under £200 to take pole to 14.5m

            How many top 5s?
            What’s the full package?
            Might be interested.

              European package is 13m

They come as standard13m pole with 2 spare top5s and 2 spare top4s and cup kit which is a top4 kit with suncore and nanolith.

The long top4s are 4.5m long (0.5m longer than the competition tops4.)
The European top4s are longer than the uk top4s but fit onto the male end of the no5 perfectly. They are lighter and stiffer and come in light fro up to 12 elastic and carp which are stiffer than the uk match kits.

The European Match kits are on the same mandrel as the match this top kits ( I know this as i bought some match this no2s to make spare elasticated tops)

If you want new have a look at the new Maver Elite Carp/River. Its £699 for 14.5m and the spares are reasonable so you could purchase the extra 4’s and 5’s required for your grand 🙂

any modern match pole that can cope with carp will be fine with chub, i use a Browning Z9, it’s fine and i’d go on any river with it, my dad’s got a Z7, they can be had for £999 now, and that’s a little bit togher but no heavier till you get to 14.5m or longer.

You can get yourself a very good pole for a grand new, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find one that comes with no power-kits. However, any tackle dealer worth his salt will tailor the package that comes with the pole. Many poles match and power kits now carry the same prices so there is no loss to anyone by swapping the new un-cut kits from their stock.

However, it may be worth having a power-kit or two in the bag for days when you are sitting on big fish, especially if you’re having a swim fed with chopped worm.
